Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Location was excellent for early booking for Peña Palace. Comfy bed. Great value for money. Good breakfast.

GermanyIt was the off season, so the outdoor space was not available and there was no common space available inside, but that is a minor detail. Otherwise, we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the property.
The location was up the hill, so nice and quiet, surrounded by trees. Parking was available on-site, which was convenient. We were able to walk into town and also enjoyed hiking to Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle. If you don’t want to hike, there are plenty of taxi options to get you wherever you want to go.

CanadaI don't mind walking but the road up is windy with narrow shoulders and cars go quite quickly. After dinner I had to walk down to the train station to find a taxi (it was only 9:30) as the historic district was completely shut down.
Lots of character. Jerome was awesome. I had to catch an early train and he made sure I was straight on timing and directions. He also put together some fruit and pastries since I wouldn't be there for breakfast.

CanadaThere was an odd smell in our room. I very much like to have coffee available in the room without getting dressed to go down to common areas. There was only one chair to sit It was difficult driving to and from this chalet so we used taxi instead. We were able to walk down to town to eat but it was too far and uphill to walk back.
Our room was clean. Breakfast was fantastic. Old feel of the chalet was very nice. Liked the decor. The host obtained a taxi for us when needed and it came quickly.

CanadaOlder. 2 flights of stairs to climb with bags. Can’t really walk to anywhere. Concierge spoke no English.
Beautiful area in the mountains. Rustic old mansion in lovely setting. Road was only 1 way so a long mountain drive out that was fun.

Canadathis is not the fault of the property, but good to know - the hotel is on the road up to Peña Palace, which is very busy. We didn’t drive to Sintra and the walk up the road to the hotel from town can be quite scary at times with the tour buses going by. There’s no sidewalk.
Lovely old guesthouse with a very nice breakfast. Comfortable room and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

CanadaBecause it's an old building, difficult to add electric outlets, but one in the bathroom would be nice.
Quaint inn partway up the mountain to the Moorish Castle and Pena Palace. Wonderful to come back to a warm room after a chilly rainy day at Pena. Continental breakfast was excellent, lots to choose from. Internet was good and lots of parking spots for guests.

United States of AmericaMore information about where in realtion to old city the Chalet was located would have been helpful. Staff person spoke little English which made things harder.. Written material would have solved that issue. List of resturants and locations would have been nice. Transportation options would have been helpful. Folks at the castle/estate next door were very helpful when asked. We were luck they were there...

United States of AmericaNo elevator, and have your cash ready at check-in. The room was laid out well, but was lacking in accessible outlets. The light switches were a little confusing, but nothing too bad!
Absolutely phenomenal location but slightly confusing to get to, as it is on a restricted road. Still, I was pleasantly surprised at the location of the chalet. It was beautiful on the outside, very picturesque and lovely on the inside, cozy and traditional with delightful touches everywhere. The breakfast was lovely and the view of the Moorish Castle from the patio was outstanding! The foliage and surrounding garden as gorgeous. Incredibly peaceful! The owner was kind, helpful and friendly.
