Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SpainThere really is nothing we didn't like. The house offered everything we expected. The only one thing I can think of as a negative is that there wasn't a hand blender for making soup... but worse things have happened at sea, I am just trying to write until the Booking.com box goes green!!
We wanted a nice little place by the sea, and that's what we got. We swam every day, everything was very easy The house was clean and comfortable with everything you need for a short break.

AustriaEverything that could be seen as negative didn't have anything to do with Harbour House. For example there have been some reconstruction works at the harbour pier while we were there that were quite loud at times, but they started pretty late in the mornings and we were out of town for most of the day anyway, as probably will you if you make a holiday there, as you should. Probably the building site will be gone soon anyway. Also, you are in the middle of the old town, so at night during the weekends there will be loud music and partying locals near the house. That's just life and it's actually great fun to experience since it's mostly untouristy parties. If you have trouble sleeping with background noises just make sure you have some ear plugs with you. Also, you have to be realistic. We were there during the hottest time of the year, which means that in a warm harbour town there will be cockroaches at night. This has nothing to do with cleanliness, it's just the perfect weather for them. So don't mind them and remember that if you occassionally come across one in the kitchen that they are not interested in you. ;)
For my wife and myself Harbour House was a wonderful place to spend most of our 2 weeks in Madeira. Paúl do Mar is a pretty calm and not very touristy part of the island. The house is incredibly well located, just 20m from the beach and maybe 50m from the best place to eat and drink in the village, the snack bar "O Ideal". So when we weren't touring the island we spent our time on the sunbeds on the bedroom terrace, just walking across the beach promenade to refresh ourselves in the ocean, only to head back through the ground floor kitchen to get refreshing drinks to drink either on the eating terrace in front of the kitchen or upstairs on the sundeck. I hope you're getting the vibe I'm trying to describe! Communication with the owners Eddy & Tracey via the booking app was very friendly and the directions and other info I got from them was great. The local communication, key handover, change of bedsheets, towels etc. took place with Fatima. She's great, friendly and can give you great tipps, such as the fact that the guy honking around 9:30 a.m. in the street next to the house is actually the van of a baker who sells great bread. You might want to remember this, since the local minimercado is not really stacked and it's nice not to have to drive to another town for the basics. The house itself is small but cozy, has 3 floors (kitchen, living room, bedroom), yet has 2 bathrooms with showers and a washing machine, which is always a huge bonus if you're somewhere for more than a weekend. The tv is pretty new, offers quite a few international channels, and if you bring something like a Fire TV stick like us you will be more than happy. The kitchen has pretty much everything you need to really cook great meals. That's unless you're lazy and decide to eat at O Ideal most nights, also because their Poncha is just fresh, great and cheap at the same time.

LuxembourgCannot really think of anything.
The apartment is on three floors: kitchen on the ground floor, living room on the first and bedroom on the second. The living room and the bedroom have big windows overlooking the ocean and both have a balcony. The house is located next to the fishing harbour and a pebble beach. The are several good restaurants nearby. The house is very well equipped and has everything for a comfortable stay. We haven't met the owners personally but they were very helpful and efficient in communicating everything we needed to know about reaching the house. Upon arrival we were greeted by Fatima who takes care of the house and who was also very helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

United KingdomThe only one thing we weren't too keen on was having a street light on all night overlooking the balcony as we like it really dark as we live in a village with no street lights.
The location was fabulous with a balcony from the bedroom overlooking the sea. Falling asleep to the crashing waves was a delight. The house had everything you could possibly need. We never actually used the sitting room as we sat on the balcony when we were there as we took the chairs from outside onto the balcony so we ate there with the lovely view. We will be going back for sure. We loved the village as well and the people were extremely welcoming. We'd changed our original holiday to Madeira due to travel bans where we were meant to be going and were very glad we did.

United KingdomThere were builders drilling concrete on the roof in the adjacent house. The noise was extremely loud even with the windows and doors shut. We appreciate this is not the owners fault.
Beautiful views and good facilities.

PortugalAlmost everyday we had at least one encounter with a live cockroach on the ground floor. Eventhough this possiblity was written in the welcome information it was stressful due to my phobia. Kitchen with a musty smell, specially inside the cabinets. The shades don't cover the entire bedroom window and there is a street lamp very near which disturbed our sleep. The sea break/ port near the house is under construction, with heavy machinery working during normal working hours. There is a bar close by which played loud music and karaoke almost every night, even on weekdays, until 1am. Even though it's not directly related to the house, it's worth mentioning that the tunnel that you would normally take to get to Paul do Mar is closed until 2022, so you have to make a detour through one of the old roads. This adds 10 to 15 minutes to the commute if you are planning to visit the rest of the island from Paul do Mar.
The location next to the sea. Very relaxing to listen to the waves and the sight of the vast ocean. Well equipped house, two bathrooms, washing machine ready to use. Bath and beach towels available. Nice balcony facing the sea. Right in front of the house is a small pebble beach. Overall a good house to stay and relax in Paul do Mar. Close to the restaurant/bar O Ideal, where you can eat tasty lapas. Very helpful owners and staff. Provided a lot of useful information and help.
