Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

IrelandSome of breakfast staff a bit rude- could be cultural difference, but we felt scolded or told off several times for not sitting at the right table. Expected more exotic fruits to be offered. Was only melon, kiwi & normal apple/banana.. Had drink coupons, but nobody ever manning the bar. Staff were rearranging patio chairs just outside our window every morning on the patios, which woke us up as it would go on for 20-30 mins. A bottle of cold water in the room would be nice.
Rooms & view very nice & above expectations. Desk was helpful. Good location- walkable to everything we wanted. Staff generally friendly. Everything was clean. Pool was nice. No issue getting parking, but would struggle with a bigger car. Area felt safe at night too & was quiet. Little bar just down the hill was handy.

CanadaGreat location just a short walk from the old town in Funchal. Buses easy to access as well. Somewhat steep hill going up to the hotel with no sidewalk, but easily managed and completely worth it. Beautiful pool and view, as well as a lovely breakfast every morning. Receptive and friendly staff as well.

PortugalBreakfast was not in top, scrambled eggs without salt or peppar, bacon was that really bacon? No jam with strawberry or raspberry. No croissant The room had ants all days, we had them with us coming back home in our suitcase - cleaning staff must take care of this in daily cleaning or someone working with pest control for the building. The increased ventilation in the bathroom extremely loud

United KingdomThe car park at the hotel was a little stressful to get in and out of the spaces if you have a mid sized car. There is very little room to shift around if you did not get back early enough to get a good space. There were no tea and coffee facilities in the room. The bed was quite hard. There was only 1 socket for charging / hairdryer etc.
We really loved the location of this hotel. It was less than 10 minutes walk from a huge variety of restaurants in the old town. Same distance to the centre of town and shops and also the cable car up to Monte. The view from our balcony across the bay was also fabulous. Great views of the cruise ships coming in and out and of the town at night. One thing we were hugely surprised by was how quiet the hotel was but we soon learned that even on a busy day, even though Funchal is the capital city, there is very little traffic noise and no traffic jams /rush hour. The hotel was like descending on an oasis of calm.

Belgiumthe front desk staff could follow a welcoming classroom. On the 5 days we did stay there, they were the coldest, unfriendliest, and most unhelpful people I've ever seen working on a hotel reception. The people in the breakfast room were quite warm and friendly. Bfast extremelly boring and plain, for such a hotel we'd expect more than what was being served it can take a while until you get the grip of how the lightning works. and if you want to charge your mobile you need to first learn how the use the lighting's remote control and find a socket

New ZealandElectricity in rooms a problem. Key card failed to operate, one lamp on all the time, only method of switching off was to pull out plug, which was difficult to reach! This was the case in both rooms. It only operated by not having television on. Air conditioning did not work, told it could not be fixed until Monday when we were leaving. Disappointing, spoilt a good hotel.

BelgiumThe pool was clean but cold. In the future we would probably stay somewhere a little closer to the center so we could walk to the restaurants there. Walking around in the hotel area was dangerous with unpredictable turns, narrow streets and no sidewalk.
We were sent here after making a reservation at their sister hotel so we were a little disappointed by that in the beginning, especially since we booked the other one to be close to the city center and this one was a bit further. But as it turned out there were buses to the center about every 10 minutes or so, so it wasn’t that much of an inconvenience. The hotel could use some sprucing up BUT it had a lot of old charm which we liked. Great views from the breakfast balcony and pool area. After reading some bad reviews we were pretty worried but everything was just fine.

CanadaThe reason I cannot stay at this property again is because of the possibility of overbooking. The hotel notified me that they were overbooked and would be relocating us to a different hotel. However, I protested this decision and pleaded with them to keep us at the original hotel since we had friends that were meeting us there for a few days. In the end they did relent and agreed to honour our reservation. Although the hotel was very good in all ways, this initial experience did not stray from my head as it caused me a great deal of stress. If I was guaranteed that this overbooking issue would never happen again, I would definitely stay at the Quinta Bela Sao Tiago.
I liked everything about the property. It’s a perfect location for us and the quality of facilities and services is very good. Parking was always available for us as well.

United KingdomThe position is part the way up a hill with infrequent buses. A stiff walk up a steep hill after eating out was not to be looked forward to.
This is a nice hotel with a lovely view of Funchal and the harbour. The staff were friendly and the food good. There are other good restaurants nearby.
