Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomNothing…. It was perfect
Everything. Beautiful, quiet location in a vineyard up in the hills but only 20 minutes by car from Viana do Castello. Arrived late and in the rain, met with umbrellas by the exceptionally helpful and friendly Katerina. Our apartment was spotless, well equipped, private and comfortable- lovely view across the vineyard and village from our patio. Delicious Breakfast brought each morning in a basket. Beautifully maintained gardens with the most picturesque setting for a saltwater pool. Could just stay there and chill but there is plenty to do: we walked a lovely local trail in the hills, also walked down quiet lanes to local villages. There are bikes you can borrow but if you want to go further afield you might need a car. ( we came by train and took taxi from Viana do Castello)

United KingdomStaying in a rural setting was a new experience for us. We occasionally missed not having restaurants within walking distance, but it didn't detract from our enjoyment.
When planning our trip to northern Portugal, we considered several locations and places to stay - and I'm so glad we decided on the Quinta Da Bouca D'Arques (and Viana do Castelo)! Our apartment was stylish, clean, comfortable and very well-equipped. The breakfast was outstanding. We were brought a basket of goodies every morning, including fresh bread, yogurt, fruit, cold cuts and cheese, which kept us going throughout the day. Catarina and Gabriel were very welcoming and were full of great suggestions. We particularly enjoyed our wine tour at Quinta do Ameal, recommended by the owner Joao. We also spent a memorable morning exploring the village of Montaria and making traditional bread - thoroughly recommended! All in all, we had a lovely and relaxing stay. Sitting on the terrace with a bottle of wine was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring!

United States of AmericaThis property is a paradise! We loved the flora, our fountain apartment, sounds of birds, the natural (chlorine free) pool and the sumptuous breakfast brought in a basket to our shaded stone porch each morning. The cleaners work hard to keep the rooms and property spotless and our host, Caterina (the caretaker in the estate owners absence) welcomed us with genuine warmth and offered the best suggestions about everything from local festivals to vegetarian fare.

United KingdomEverything was spot on. The place is a gem. The staff / owner were very warm and attentive. We felt very comfortable in our short 4-days stay with our 4 year old. The massage option was unexpected and a very welcome extra. Overall a comfortable charming place for families or couples with things to see and do without having to travel far.

United KingdomThe place is very picturesque. The gardens are lovely and there's a nice swimming pool. The staff were very attentive, with ideas of places to visit, restaurants etc. We were greeted with a glass of port when we arrived. Breakfast is very good (arrives in a basket) outside your cottage every morning. There are also oranges to make freshly squeezed orange juice whenever you want. This is one of the best places we have stayed in.

United States of AmericaWe liked everything, but you do need a car.
This is an exceptional place in every way. We stayed in the Fountain apartment and my daughter and her family were in the Bouganvillea apartment. They were both lovely, so comfortable, in a beautifully renovated historic building, very tastefully appointed with lots of thoughtful additions (like fresh oranges every day with a juicer in the kitchenette). The owner, Joao, and his staff were very personable. We particularly appreciated Catalina who went to the trouble to obtain birthday pastries as a surprise for our family member when she discovered he was having a birthday during our stay. She was delightful. We got massages from a local masseuse arranged by Catalina; they were very good! Catalina also recommended an excellent restaurant for our final night. The Quinta provides breakfast baskets each morning which were plentiful and delicious. We were unfamiliar with the area (and kind of ended up there by mistake, thinking we were a bit closer to the Duoro Valley) but we were pleasantly surprised to find a fun town (Vitelli de Castelo), historic sights (the oldest town in Portugal) and fantastic beaches within close proximity. The beaches really were spectacular, very natural and untouched by development (no big hotels lining the coast), with boardwalks built through the natural areas which are great for strolling. Catalina can tell you where to go! While this seems to be an area frequented by Portuguese, Americans don’t seem to know about it (partly because it is only accessible by car and so doesn’t appear in guide books like Rick Steves). And, by the way, the temperature was fantastic — 70’s and maybe low 80’s in the middle of August. But the centerpiece of the trip for us was the lovely Quinta da Bouca d’Argues. We will be returning.
