At Cottage Morinokokage, guests can rent out a cottage with a hammock. Free WiFi is available in the guest rooms. Our host Mr Nakashima was very kind and generous during our stay. He always replied to our messages via bookings.com very quickly, so it was easy to ask any questions and get help whenever we needed. When we had to change our travel dates and book a different room for the last day, he was very understanding and went the extra mile to assist us in transferring our luggage to the new room. Needless to say, the cottages themselves were adorable and lovely! Very clean and spacious, and the beds were comfortable. The best thing is the shoe dryer machine provided in the room. Because it rains so much in Yakushima, that device was invaluable in preparing our footwear for another day of adventure as they would be dry in no time! On the only one clear night we experienced, we were able to see some stars outside the room. The atmosphere is peaceful and you can hear birds chirping in the morning. It rained almost every day we visited, and yet we truly enjoyed our time in Yakushima thanks to the warm welcome from his family & colleagues, and appreciate all the help (especially advising us on the correct port to go for our departure ferry).

A 5-minute drive from Miyanoura Port, Wa no Cottage Sen-no-ie offers private Japanese-style cottages surrounded by nature. We had a whole cottage (with a toilet) for ourselves. The shower/bathtub was in a separate building a short walk away, but still for our use only. It's quiet and beautiful.

Situated in Ibusuki, 49 km from Kagoshima Chuo Station, Ibusuki Royal Hotel features accommodation with a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a garden and a terrace. The prettiest hotel ever! The bedrooms are so incredible, you can really feel like Japan in the 1900s, super traditional. The staff are really friendly, they speak English. The breakfast is amazing, but if you’re looking for a toast or something more ocidental, I wouldn’t recommend it. Otherwise, go for it! So worth it.

Just steps away from Asahidori Tram Stop, Richmond Hotel Kagoshima Kinseicho features comfortable guestrooms, free property-wide Wi-Fi and a breakfast. Very clean and comfortable, slightly bigger than other rooms we’ve stayed in in Japan (there was a double bed with a pull-out cot). Good location on a tram stop and just around the corner from main shopping area and a short walk in the other direction to the port area for the Sakurajima ferry and aquarium. Netflix option on TV, fridge and kettle in room. Self-service laundry facilities were useful and front staff were very friendly and helpful.

Featuring 4 food & drink options, an outdoor tea bath, 2 saunas and hot-spring baths, Hotel Kyocera is a 5-minute drive from JR Hayato Train Station. Amazing service from Hotel Kyocera. Hotel bed is very good quality. Very comfortable hotel. Not too far from restaurants, JR line. Is a good hotel to stay at if you want to be close to Kagoshima airport.

Hotel Hokke Club is right next to Takamibaba Tram Station and offers modern rooms with free WiFi, an LCD satellite TV and a private bath. It features a hot public bath and a buffet restaurant. Breakfast was great, with a lot of choice, either Japanese breakfast or more European style. The staff goes above and beyond to provide great service.
