The hotel is situated very well - right next to the main station in Gora. The room was sufficiently spacious, and the four single beds (two as bunks on a sturdy mezzanine that was fun for our children) were very comfortable. Half-board includes a very good dinner - a fusion of Japanese and Mediterranean that impressed -- and a very good buffet breakfast. The hotel has a public onsen with milky white water. The onsen, with separate male and female baths, is limited to 6 persons per bath and has a very friendly guide sheet in the dressing rooms. The experience was very good.

Everything was perfect! Staying at this ryokan was probably the best part of our Japan trip, and I wish we had booked it for at least two nights instead of one. It was a much needed rest after 5 days of runnning around in Tokyo. I loved everything about it, the staff, the room, private onsen, dinner expereince, it was also easy to get here from the main Train station by a local bus. I would stay here again.

I only stayed for one night, but it was one of the best stays on my whole Japan trip. The staff is really nice, friendly and gives you great advice (thanks Sara for the pyama after Onsen tip haha). I would also highly recommend to have the dinner, it's a great way to get to know the other guests in a cozy setting.

Staff were very kind and their hospitality was amazing and the best of all the accommodations we stayed at in our 3 week trip to Asia. The place was very clean and the food served was very good (we ate dinner twice, but not the breakfast). Given most local restaurants close early, it was very convenient to be able to have dinner at the guest house. The onsen that you can book is private and relaxing. Free shuttle to Gora station really helped each morning given that the location was a bit off the main road.

Everything about our experience during our stay was beyond our expectations. Clean, quiet, well appointed. We'll definitely go back and stay longer here. We loved the private onsen and the Traditional style accommodation, it's definitely the most memorable accommodation we had out of the 6 hotels we stayed in during our trip to Japan

Fuji hakone guest house was definitely one of our favourite accommodations whilst in Japan. Very friendly, thoughtful and helpful service throughout. We stayed in the *special* room with its own sink. It was absolutely lovely. The futons were extremely comfortable and we had a beautiful view of the bamboo tries surrounding the area. The highlight of course were the private onsens. We loved both but the outside onsen was even more wonderful. We only stayed one night, but we wished to have stayed another! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Out of seven accommodations that we stayed in, Matsuzakaya Honten was the very best, excelling in all categories and the new standard to which we now hold other ryokans. They offered top-notch service, thoughtful hospitality, and generous amenities including free drinks! The private onsens were super luxurious and easy to reserve, the facilities traditional but beautiful and extremely well-maintained, and the delicious food served with upscale presentation. We were beyond pleased with our stay.
