What a wonderful place! I am very happy that I was able to spend two nights at Morito-Sha. I felt comfortable there from the moment I arrived. The room is very minimalist and elegant. It is worth noting that you have access to a private bathroom, while the toilets are shared. However, I can assure you that they are extremely clean so there is absolutely no issue with that. I would like to thank the staff for their warm and welcoming hospitality. In particular, the young woman (I’m sorry, I didn’t catch her name) who helped me carry my suitcase to the bus stop, as well as the lady who speaks French and kindly prepared a quick breakfast for me to take on the bus because I didn’t have time to eat before leaving. Speaking of the bus, there is a bus stop only a 5 min walk from the property. From there, you can easily visit the beautiful villages of Ainokura and Suganuma (less touristy than Shirakawa-go, but just as beautiful!). I hope to come back one day. Thank you! ❤️

Definitely one of the best places we stayed in Japan. Super friendly and helpful owner. Super clean and spacious accomodation. I was also glad that we took the extra effort to stay near hidden gem Ainokura with almost no Western tourists rather than in over-tourist spot Shirakawago (which we found annoying during our stopover). Welcome to rural and authentic Japan! It felt a bit like in the movie „Local Hero“: one hostel, one Restaurant, one small grocery store and one bakery - that is Gokayama Base‘s vicinity. :-) We loved it a lot and highly recommend Gokayama Base!

What amazing accommodation! If you have the opportunity to stay here, you will not be disappointed! I think that the house is something like 350 years old but has obviously aged very well. We would definitely stay here again. As soon as we walked in through the front door, we could feel the calm. There was calm music playing and our host spoke in a calm unhurried tone. Even our tween/teen children spoke quietly and calmly so as to not disturb the ambiance. We had access to the kitchen, which allowed me to make food for the children and make coffee for the adults. For the coffee snobs among us, our host as happy to share his privately roasted beans. We would definitely stay here again, in a heartbeat.

We had a wonderful stay. The hosts were extremely welcoming, kind, and accommodating, and did their best to make our stay enjoyable. It’s a spacious traditional Japanese house with all the modern facilities. The Kotasu was a great place to warm our feet and gather for a snack after playing with the snow. Everything was absolutely amazing! The attention to detail was exceptional. From check-in to the end of our stay, we felt welcomed and genuinely cared for. The breakfast was also amazing! We had to receive a very important package at the hotel and the staff was more than nice to help us so we are extremely thankful! We spent two wonderful evenings in Fukuno for the Yotaka Matsuri and had a relaxing time at the Fukuno Town Hotel inbetween festivities. Thank you for having us!
