The location was tricky to get to, but that is not the hotel's fault. They are accessible only by foot due to the way the ancient town was built. I received excellent recommendations from the hotel about parking for our rental car. There is a secure parking building about 15 minutes walk away that cost 20 euro per day, although this is not the only option. The reception staff were excellent and organised for our luggage to be taken to our room - much appreciated considering the cobbled paths around the hotel. The room was large, quiet and well appointed. The included continental breakfast was adequate and the spa facilities were a nice addition.

When I arrived I was greeted by Raffaele and given lots of tips and lots of information on where eat, visit and some history of Matera. My room was spacious and comfortable with a great bathroom too. Location was perfect, easy access from the train and to all there was to see in this magnificent city. Breakfast each morning was delicious homemade sweet and savoury food. The communication before arriving and while I was there was fantastic. I felt like I had been welcomed into a family home.
