Well worth the effort to travel to experience a lovely ryokan, it's host and the town. I paid for dinner and I'm SO glad I did. It was a highlight of my stay and in deed a highlight of my 5 week trip in Japan. You sit in a sunken seating area and watch the ryokan owner/cook prepare what felt like a large number of individual dishes. The food was absolutely delicious. I was concerned about hearing other guests because, being an older house, the walls are thin - but the night I was there all the guests were respectfully quiet. I had a view over the "river" which may be a mis-nomer - but it is a peaceful stream running through the pretty street. I highly recommend a visit.

It was the perfect combination between japanese traditional house and modern scandinave touch. We felt so at peace in this room, a perfect moment of relaxation. Bed was really confortable and the room so big. The staff were super welcoming and it’s nice to have free homemade snacks and drinks. I definitely recommend this hotel to design lovers

An absolutely beautiful property and location. It was so lovely to get out of the touristy areas of Japan. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and gave us great recommendations for the area. We would highly recommend staying here!

Great hospitality from the owner - they are very friendly and made sure our stay was comfortable and provided good dinner recommendations. Having an onsen in the ryokan is a huge bonus - this is probably the highlight of our stay. Authentic Japanese breakfast served. The location is near the train station making sites around Lake Biwa accessible. We're so glad we stayed here.
