After a long and strenuous hike through the mountains and visiting the temples, taking a ropeway down and walking a few meters to this inn is such a treat! The onsen-style bath was quite hot, the way I like it and really takes the day’s soreness away. All toiletries are provided as amenities so no need to worry! Coin laundry is the standard fair price, they have snacks for sale if you don’t want to go to the nearby convenience store (they have a bike you can use if you want). The room is the traditional tatami mat with ground seating and the room is quite spacious! The bed is more western-style in that they are raised with ample cushioning. The AC works really well and the room can be heated and cooled quickly. The host is very friendly and puts a lot of thought behind the guests’ experience. Overall, I really enjoyed this stay and will cherish the memory throughout the rest of my pilgrimage.

Situated 47 km from Mannou Park, COSMOS Iya Valley in Akano features rooms with air conditioning and free WiFi. The property has mountain and quiet street views, and is 48 km from Kotohiragu Shrine. The host is a very kind and nice person. He offered to pick up my luggage from the station and even took me to the only open store at the time to buy some groceries for dinner. The kayak experience was incredible I fully recommend it — he is a great coach! I highly recommend this place and will definitely stay here again if I have the opportunity. The house is not far from the station, and you can easily walk there if your luggage isn’t too big. The view from the house is amazing and very relaxing. It’s a comfortable, calm, and peaceful place.

Situated in Miyoshi, 37 km from Tsurugi-san Chairlift, Iya Kankou Ryokan features accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge. Free WiFi is at guests' disposal. My perfect introduction to a ryokan stay. The host was hospitable and made sure I was comfortable. The breakfast and dinner was so delicious, including local foods. The room itself was comfortable and the location a perfect place from which to explore the beautiful Iya Valley. Transport was also relatively easy: caught a local bus from Oboke Station, which ran even during the New Year holiday period (check times though and opt for earlier services in case).

Located in Uinouchi, Next Chapter - Guesthouse - Kito features a garden, shared lounge, terrace, and free WiFi. Amazing location & fantastic host, we spent the night here after a long day of motorcycling through the mountains & couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! We'll definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Japan.

Set within 8.2 km of Mollusco Mugi Museum and 25 km of Hiwasa Chelonian Museum Caretta, 大砂荘 OZUNA CAMP and LODGE offers rooms with air conditioning and a shared bathroom in Kaiyo. We stayed about a week in this wonderful oasis and didn’t regret one bit. The hosts were nice and took good care of us (driving us to the supermarket or to the station). The view was stunning and the house felt homey. Thank you so much for everything!

This is a lovely spacious apartment with a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine and even a deep hot tub to soak after a long day. The apartment was extremely clean. And the owner is very helpful and easy to contact. While I don't expect people in another country to speak my language, we were very happy that the owner spoke excellent English. We liked it so much we are coming back again after our pilgrimage around Shikoku.

Beautiful property, very tastefully and elegantly furnished, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was delicious. The host is very kind and thoughtful. Highly recommended.

Located in Shishikui, 2.9 km from Shirahama Beach, Pension Shishikui provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a private beach area and a terrace. The staff were very friendly and the setting was so beautiful. I walked from the train station so if you are travelling without a car don’t take much luggage. My room was large and had a separate sleeping area as well as a private terrace. I was able to eat dinner on the first evening which was delicious as was the breakfast (with fresh bread from the on-site bakery). So quiet at night and appreciated the sky full of stars and the sound of gentle waves in the bay below.
