Wellawaya and it's surroundings are really beautiful and off the beaten track, but what really made my stay so good was the warm welcome I received from Thomasha and his family. Thomasha took me to see a nearby Temple and gave me some really useful tips on how to visit Diyaluma waterfalls by bus the next day. He was even so kind to drop me off in the city centre in the evening so I could have a walk around and took me to the bus stop on the day I left. I also had one delicious dinner at the homestay, and had the best pumpkin curry ever! I asked for a bed with a mosquito net and Thomasha accomodated my request. The room was simple but clean, with a nice balcony. I would really recommend this place to all my friends! I booked for one night, but stayed two... And could have stayed longer!

The cherry on top is that if you are lucky enough you can wake up with an elephant in the garden, stealing the coconut from the tree. They organised the safari for us and it was an amazing experience, with a safe and experienced driver. He knows where to go to have good chance to spot a leopard, and we did! They even offered us a night ride on the elephant road, and it was very very good! We saw a big tusker elephant. Highly recommended!
