Avalon, in a tranquil garden setting, offers self-catering cottages with free Wi-Fi and balconies overlooking the valley and the Puketotora River. It was a fabulous sanctuary, offering a sauna and natural spring-fed pool. We didn't use either of these but it was so beautiful and peaceful just being there. And a short walk down to the river. The whole area is really well maintained by a team of people. I would definitely recommend it to anyone going to Kerikeri.

Situated in Paihia, Paihia Waterfront 1 Bedroom Apartment features accommodation with private pool, free WiFi and free private parking for guests who drive. The property is conveniently located in the centre of Paihia and overlooks the waterfront. The private underground parking is fantastic and the property has all the amenities needed. John who looks after the properties is also incredibly helpful and is on hand to assist at with any issues or questions.

The Grays is a recently renovated homestay in Whangarei, where guests can make the most of its open-air bath and garden. This property offers access to a terrace, free private parking and free WiFi. I felt like I was staying with family friends. They were so friendly, I had some incredible chats with everyone, and of course the dogs were sweethearts - well trained, didn't jump up at me but did want pats if possible. I don't really write reviews normally but honestly this stay was a highlight of my trip. They did also mention that some people who come to stay aren't that sociable and that they are more than happy with that - very much each to their own so even if you aren't sociable, this will be a relaxing stay. Views were wonderful from the deck, spa was delightful, but honestly, the people were fantastic. Definitely think I'll stay here any time I'm in Whangarei going forward.

Set in Whangarei and only 3.6 km from Northland Event Centre, Town View Homestay offers accommodation with mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking. The room is comfortable and kept it warm (we stayed in May). Cindy and Schalk are amazing! For us who are super shy, they explained us everything and made us feel welcome. The toilet is not in the room, but is just for you so it was perfect. You can use the kitchen if you like and there is a lot of space for parking. Last but not least, the view from the room is amazing!

Situated just 20 km from Opua Forest, FOREST WATERS features accommodation in Haruru with access to a garden, barbecue facilities, as well as a shared kitchen. Overall, the accomodation was fabulous! The grounds were really peaceful and it was only a 10 minute drive to town. So much nicer than staying in town with a lot of noise and people around. The hosts were kind, warm and generous but also gave us our own space and privacy. I'd never stayed in a B&B style accomodation before so this was a new experience and I'd do it again. If I have the opportunity to come back to the Northlands of NZ I'd definitely stay again.
