Great Alpine lakes but choose Thumsee and other clear water ones with less vegetation. My daughter found a leach in Hoeglwoether See. Both are beautiful and the trout swimming in Thumsee are amazing to watch in the crystal clear water. Sommerrodelbahn (summer toboggan) is a blast but use the break or you will end up with bruised ribs like me or worse.

Freilassing is right on the doorstep of Salzburg but is definitely more pleasant from the point of quietness. Prices reflect this - you will pay double in Salzburg! Plenty of bars/eateries - except on Mondays!

My wife loved the Sound of Music tour ( not my cup of tea )...
My wife loved the Sound of Music tour ( not my cup of tea ) and can thoroughly recommend that if you are into the Sound of Music. Definitely make the effort to go and visit the castle… go by phenicular railway ( you can walk it if you want but it is steep ) and pay the extra 3 euros for the premium ticket (think it was 17 euros ) as this gains you access all areas at the castle… the views alone from the top are well worth it. Mirabell gardens is also worth a wander around but is included in the Sound of Music Tour. If you are into Mozart then you can visit the Mozart museum. We found some of the restaurants were a little expensive so it will pay to walk around and find what suits you. All in all a short 4 day break should give you enough time to see and do what you need and Salzburg is very picturesque. Well recommended for a short city break.

It was a great holiday.City was easy to access. The city was amazing. Beautiful sights and lots of history. Transport was easy to use and lots of people spoke English. Many restaurants to choose from.
