Bagara & Bundaberg are both very pleasant places to stay in. We were only there for a couple of days, and it rained most of the time. We intend to go again, and this time go to Lady Musgrave Island. As our trip had to be cancelled as the weather was bad & it was too rough. There is a lot to see & do around Bundaberg. It's a very nice & friendly place. Next time we would like to stay for a week if we can.
Great location for a stopover from north Qld Coast to Brisbane. Great beach area close to town. Tourist information centre well staffed and attractions in the town easy to get to. Lots of good food locations.
Bundy is good for brief stays to do specific activities such as turtle watching or trips to the reef. Surrounding countryside is fine as long as you like looking at cane fields and macadamia orchards. Local pubs and clubs are OK for meals. The town is a bit tired, with many shops closed or for lease.
I was born in Bundaberg grew up there I have fond memories but upon returning after 20 odd years I was surprised by the changes, some for the good some for the worse nothing serious. The city is very beautiful I would call it a garden city. For a tourist I would say you there's plenty to see some of which are only available in that part of the world. There are ample affordable hotels and motels plus great restaurants around the city. plus the people are very friendly.
It is not a pretty city but had all facilities. We went to visit family and the best part was the access to the pretty beaches of Elliot Heads and Kelly's Beach. It is a very busy town and you need a GPS to manage. We drove from Sunshine Coast and it took me 4 hours. Could have taken the train or flew. No public bus service. Many churches and the population seems totally Caucasian. Saw one Aborigine and a few Indian folk in restaurants. Lots of retired people with their little dogs. The library is magnificent with a charity run café and many new books.
We enjoyed our stay, the locals were friendly and while there are not a lot of tourist attractions we enjoyed visiting the Bundy Rum distillery, the turtle information centre at Mon Repos, the Botanical Gardens and Bert Hinkler Air Museum and Bagara where we enjoyed the Bagara Beach Hotel modern, great location and food.
