Beautiful historic town.

Beautiful historic town. Many lovely old buildings with very well kept streetscapes in the town. A lovely old pub and a lively bowls club both offer meals. Friendly townsfolk. The Darling River with old port jetty worth a stroll. Wonderful bird life.

The Back o' Bourke centre (Bourke's tourist information...

The Back o' Bourke centre (Bourke's tourist information centre), is a tourist attraction in itself and takes a long time to experience in full. I videoed a lot of it, so I could spend minimal time there, and read everything I wanted to read later. There are still videos and sound recordings presented at the centre to listen to. The actual Bourke, outside the tourist information centre is quite a small town with some beautiful old buildings, but not a lot in the way of facilities, (but probably all most tourists need). There are some interesting things like the rebuilt (i.e. replica) wharf, the old bridge over the Darling at North Bourke, Fred Hollows grave at the cemetery, which is very unusual - more like a sculpture than a grave, and some natural wonders you have to travel some distance out of town to see.

Bourke is a bit rough at night time - take care when walking because you get approached by people asking for money or cigarettes - other than that we visited the pub at Porte Bourke where we saw the Mathildas playing while we were eating a very good chicken schnitty acompanied by some good coldies - that was a nice evening
