The lodge is located between the river and the ocean, so you get the best of both worlds. The hosts were so accommodating and made all of the reservations for our tours as well as picking us up in La Pavona and shuttling us in the boat back and forth to town. The morning canoe tour with Manuel was our favorite tour so far.

The hostess Anna Rita was very helpful and went above and beyond in assisting us when a family member got sick. She took exceptional care of all of us ? assisting us with everything we needed. Their guide Owen was very helpful too, assisting us with our medical needs and taking care of us by talking to the doctor and even bringing us medication. He was very knowledgeable and did a phenomenal job showing us the local wildlife during our tour. Ana Rita and Owen were truly amazing and we appreciate all they did to make our stay very enjoyable and comfortable.

One of the best experiences I have ever had over multiple adventures across the world! A small, family run business that goes out of their way to make you comfortable and feel welcomed. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. The included breakfasts were both delicious and filling. Gloria is an excellent cook! Even with a language barrier she was determined to make sure I had enough to eat. Sergio is a kind and friendly person and has a fairly good grasp of English. He communicated with me numerous times helping me determine transport to their location. He’s also a very knowledgeable and effective guide.
I purposely chose this location: San Francisco, because I preferred the more quiet and laid back atmosphere rather than the more popular town of Tortuguero. It does require a boat shuttle to most locations though.
But to me the greatest attraction was getting to personally know the family more than just hotel operators. And this was possible even though I am very limited in Spanish. I felt like I was treated as one of their own! I will never forget the three nights I spent at Cabanas Daneysha. I truly hope I can return to spend more time with this beautiful family and stay at their well kept cabanas. I am most grateful for this family making my stay so enjoyable and richly meaningful! 🇨🇦

More animals than I have ever seen and beautiful rooms. All of the activities were a blast especially the hike where we saw tons of birds and monkeys. The guides were super nice and everything -- food, transportation, excursions -- was really really well organized and convenient. The food was also great, and every meal was different. We WILL stay here again

The deluxe glamping suite was more than we could ask for! With the pool, very private deck, mini bar, etc. the bathroom was big and all the finishings were beautiful!

Portuguese National Park is a wonder.
Portuguese National Park is a wonder. You can't get there by Car, there are no roads. Only by boat 1 hr up river or by plane. You are in the jungle with so many animals. I recommend staying in a lodge away from town, in the secondary forest area. Take a canal boat tour and enjoy the wild life. This is a must see in Costa Rica

I absolutely loved Tortuguero and wish my spanish was better, however, it was easy to do everything with English--I was amazed at how well everyone spoke it!
My favorite tour was the early morning canoe tour I booked with Green Tours. It was so peaceful and my guide, Brandon, was excellent!
There are some really good restaurants/bars that are reasonably priced.
Overall, it was a good time and I'm really happy with how everything turned out.
I recommend booking a place to stay ahead of time, as well as the boat ride and return. Book tours once you get to the village. All the local companies are about the same price and a great value!
I would 100% love to come back with friends or a partner someday.
PURA VIDA!

We arrived by accident on the day of TortuFest, when there was a carnival in the streets, lots of performers and lots of fun: 1.11., highly recommended.
It's good to take a morning canoe tour — even if it's raining the whole time you get to see a lot and it's a nice experience — walk through the jaguar trail, and we've seen a bunch of animals on the night walk as well (including a pooping sloth).
El Patio is a great restaurant for carribean food, but the little soda right at the docks was also quite nice.
