Loved Santander. Something delightful to discover upon turning every corner, whether an intriguing street, a park, or a lovely building, and that was just the few miles I explored of the city centre (I walked A LOT!). There was lots to stimulate. You couldn't move for falling over cafes and restaurants - I stumbled on a cute pizzeria themed around Pinocchio. Excellent shopping. It seemed we were there towards the end of a festival but the nightlife appeared to be excellent (possibly as a result). This is a place where I'd like to spend more time.
It's a big city, but not overcrowded, gay/lesbian friendly, with lots of pubs/clubs in a walking distance, nice and tidy green areas, with vital local museums and good communicated with Bilbao and cheap bus with Madrid (Barajas).
Parking is a nightmare but apart from that it has a an old colonial charm, quite grand, fantastic museum showing human evolution and cave arts. Impressive port and nice shopping reminds me of Cagliari in Sardinia-enjoy
Oh my, dry warmth, heat, red bourganvila, lemons hanging on trees, sandy beaches, aquamarine seas, half empty campsite to myself, cycle paths through City, marble plazas and strolling locals..... Aaah x
Lovely beaches. In the centre there were nice restaurants and bars. The peninsula was nice to visit, with lovely views. Do have in mind that the palace is not open for visitors. Neither is the lighthouse. There is a little zoo though with sea lions, seals and penguins.
Lovely beaches, great cafes and very good transport connections. A variety of hotels at a variety of prices. If you like shopping, it has all the kinds of shops you need. A great place to do business and relax. I can't think of anything better than a walk along the beach after a two hour meeting.
