Charming house and good freedom to come and go. Fully stocked.
Uber works locally. We were there for a wedding at Crathorne.
Host Ollie was super accommodating and threw some edible and practical extras in. He is full of stories and wisdom. Really attentive and knowledgeable.

It’s the small things that really made the difference. The kitchen was very well stocked with a selection of coffees, teas and cocoa. The host even left us a bottle of wine and some chocolates! The entire was delightful!

Eaglescliffe is a good base to explore Teesside and North Yorkshire. There are very good restaurants close to the station. Preston Park is a lovely place for a stroll and has an interesting museum. Eaglescliffe also boasts some very nice pubs.

As a Georgian, elegant market town, with the most amazing viaduct running beside the length of the High Street, Yarm has lots and lots to offer. The on-street parking is a real bonus - used to be free (time-limited), but is now very reasonably priced, and still enables visitors to be at the centre of things immediately.

Hotel near to good road access but very quiet itself and back from road. Darlington itself is a mix of old and new. Still enough of the history left to make it enjoyable. Lovely cafe above Waterstones. Good craft and real ale bar a short walk from Ballantyne. Town Centre still has a good Department Store. You can go anywhere from Darlington rail station for a day trip. Locomotion museum is great for families.

Nice shopping area at Tesside Park within a couple of miles.
Nice shopping area at Tesside Park within a couple of miles. Good selection of places and amenities for shopping. Cab fare around £6.60 between most places.
A good selection of pubs and good food service.
A great Snooker, Billiards, Pool Cue and accessories supply shop and also Thornaby snooker club is nearby in centre of Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees. That was the main reason for my visit.
Snooker coaching by 3 different world snooker qualified coaches is also available in the Stockton-on-Tees area too.

The town is not too busy although a bit run down especially near the accommodation. The traffic was not bad at all times for a central area. Did not visit much of the main town area except nearby seaside resorts.

Yarm is a beautiful town and really hasn’t changed much since our last visit nearly 50 years ago. Having grown up in Eaglescliffe we wanted to take a trip down memory lane. Even our trip to Strickland and Holt on the High Street didn’t disappoint!

There isn't a lot to see to be honest.
There isn't a lot to see to be honest. Town centre has some impressive Victorian buildings but on Sunday night there was almost nobody around except bored teenagers. The railway museum is designed to cater for families with children and school trips and contains no technical information on the trains in it or the building and operation of the worlds first passenger train line line, which was disappointing.

Visited for one night only to see a show at The Globe Theatre, a wonderfully restored art deco building. Comfortable, great facilities and sound system. Worthwhile following the Riverside walk to the Tees Barage and Infinity Bridge. Millennium Bridge closed for building work during our visit (Nov 2024) Nicely developed town centre and if you like the 'quirky' don't miss the " Stockton Flyer" appearance!
