We got the bus which ran hourly into Oban so we could spend the day there and have a meal and a few drinks . There’s so much to do there .
I was lucky enough to get photos of the sunset 😍

Oban is great the seafood is a must (try the sea-food shack by the ferry), there is a good range of shops from handmade jewellery and fine wool clothing to charity shops, whisky shops and outdoor shops.
The distillery and hot chocolate café are worth a visit as is a walk up the hill or along the shore to the castle.

There is very little at Barcaldine apart from a few houses but it is set in a lovely part of Scotland and is ideal as a touring centre or for cycling as it is on the Caledonia Way. Ideally, you need a car to get to pubs, shops and restaurants and explore. It is a few miles from Oban which has all amenities including ferries to Mull and other places.

Great to have the right to roam on the island.
Great to have the right to roam on the island. Wonderful to walk on the island's 'spine' and see all around the beautiful mountains and sea. And delightful to go down to the cove with the bothy, sit on the rocks with feet in the water, hearing the gentle lapping of the sea.

As it was November, a number of venues had closed for the season but there were still a lot of restaurants to choose from within a 20 minute drive. The pink shop, Munro's is very well stocked and the staff lovely and welcoming.
Ronnie, the host at Coel Ila was most welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Oban is a vibrant town with excellent facilities and much to do. It is well worth a visit and if you're a whisky lover visits to the distillery and the whisky shop are a must. A day trip to Mull is also a good bet.

Our first visit to Oban and we'll certainly be back.
Our first visit to Oban and we'll certainly be back. There are a huge choice of hotels (avoid The Columba) to suit all tastes and budgets and a great variety of excellent places to eat. We visited McCaig's Tower from where you get breath taking views of the town and the waters and islands beyond. The small but very informative War Museums is also well worth a visit. We took a ferry to the Isle of Mull and then the bus to Tobermory, but would probably take our car across next time so we could explore a bit more.
We have more than 70 million property reviews, all from real, verified guests.
