Beautiful - CLEAN - island!

Beautiful - CLEAN - island! Took the ferry from the mainland (returned by air) rented a car (had to go to the airport to get it). Had a full home with kitchen and, although we did shop at a very modern supermarket, we also ate in several restaurants. All good! Small island, easy to get around on very good highways (some road construction). We are an older couple so mostly sight seeing, monkeys and sloths were lots of fun, most people come for the water sports I would think.

Loved the staff. Helpful in so many ways.

Loved the staff. Helpful in so many ways. They are planning for new activities. Taxi available. Great food. I ate at the restaurant daily. I could get lunches and breakfast to go when I had early morning pick up for diving. I dived with Octopus Diving, recommended by the resort. I enjoyed the birds that were attracted to the thriving plantings along the walkways. The wifi worked well. The owner helped me with scheduling. She took me to the cash machine. She was so helpful.

I traveled here with my 12-year-old son and we had a wonderful stay. We rented one of the cabins, which had a private bathroom and A/C, making it very comfortable. We felt safe throughout our visit and loved the location. It's just a short walk to the beach, with easy access to water taxis, snorkeling, restaurants, and everything else in West End. One of the highlights of our stay was Yahongrey, the small restaurant right on the property. Senora Nancy and her team served excellent food and it quickly became one of our favorite spots. My son also loved the friendly dogs and other pets around the property, which added to the welcoming atmosphere. Overall, this was a great place to stay, and we would happily return on a future trip to Roatán.

One of the most beautiful beaches ever with so much to do! Stay on west bay and you can use a water taxi for $5 to west end where there are many more restaurants and bars but if you just want to stay on the beach you can do that too with so much to see and do

We loved snorkelling out to the reef, particularly the Spooky Channel, and a delicious lunch at Puerta Azul. Best of all, the beach was almost deserted, despite cruise ships disgorging passengers elsewhere on the island. We regretted not having time to see the botanical gardens.

A fun location. Lots of restaurants and bars.

A fun location. Lots of restaurants and bars. Blue Marlin has a great happy hour. Sandy buns is a favorite. wonderful food. Not to expensive. Even if you only stop for the cinnamon roll $3. The Drunken Sailor is a great Italian restaurant. You need reservations. Lots of things to do. Take a water taxi over to West Bay. Snorkeling is great there. You can rent snorkeling equipment for $10 for 24 hours at the dive shop next to Sun Downers. Rent it at about 11:00 and you can still use it in the morning before bringing it back. Another good spot to snorkel is right out and around the corner from Gingers. Anthony’s has awesome jerk chicken. Yahungery is a very inexpensive place for breakfast and lunch and lunch. There are a few street vendors who open in the evening. Tasty inexpensive food. Give them a try.

First time to Roatan for us.

First time to Roatan for us. When I saw the beach for the first time I thought "uh oh"... didn't realize beforehand the West Bay Area was so popular. Not a bad thing, just popular. Age range included the entire gamut. It wasn't a college beach party gone wild nor was it a quiet and private pristine beach scene. Young kids, old kids, in the middle kids all enjoying themselves. Plenty of activities to choose from. Plenty of room to walk and everything you need is nearby. The scuba right off the beach was surprisingly excellent. Snorkeling is best if you get out away from shore. Very calm seas doing our visit so no wave action. Doesn't appear waves are very often a thing at West Bay. Lots of locals offering goods and services, but none were pushy, scary, or unfriendly. Water taxi rides to West End were easy and fun ($5 USD per person each way was the going rate. Operators looking to get 4 passengers on each trip, but were negotiable). All pictures from West Bay scuba diving and snorkeling.

The island has undergone alot of development in the two decades we were last there and so there is relatively more to do and a larger range of places to stay. Its strength as a wonderful spot for scuba divers is still intact even though there has been some impact to the coral, but not nearly as much as many other places, sadly. There are plenty of sealife and variety of places to dive.

Five stars definitely for the scuba diving.

Five stars definitely for the scuba diving. It is incredible. It is also an affordable place to dive, and there are so many sites available. And a variety of places and instructors. The area in general is nice, and fairly clean. Dining options are relatively plentiful, and varied in price/environment/style. Hotels as well...plentiful and different prices/styles/environments. When walking around, sometimes it feels not particularly super safe, but that is more of a feeling rather than seeing anything actually happen when I have been there. Spanish is spoken...but in tourist related places, English is sometimes even more common. You can be there for just a couple nights, or for a full week or more...if you like diving and want to do it multiple times, the longer the better obviously, but just a couple nights is plenty also to walk/see the entire area and get at least one dive in before leaving.
