My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at RITA Izumo Hirata. The property is managed by a lovely and kind husband and wife team who did everything to make our stay memorable. The included high quality Japanese breakfast was both fresh and delicious. Make sure to take up the Italian dinner option in a local restaurant. It was one of the best meals of our holiday!

Stepping into the house was so cool—there were two good fortune kites on display just beyond the genkan from Izumo Taisha. We had plenty of space to sleep in the bedroom areas, but my husband and I wanted to sleep side by side and the double bed was a bit small. Thankfully, they had little futon mattresses to sleep on.

What a surprise this place was! You get to stay on the beautiful temple grounds. The view from the property is great. A great location in between Izumo and Matsue. There's a hiking trail that starts close by that goes all the way to the ocean. There's a sauna right outside the cabin that you can rent for a few hours. One of the employees from the temple will bring you breakfast each morning.
We went to the nearby Izumo Enmusubi Onsen (about 15 min drive) and enjoyed the large outdoor onsen. Watching the birds fly over while relaxing in the onsen was so pleasant.
It's neither a pro nor a con, but the cabin itself had a very western feel to it. At one point my wife said "I feel like we've stayed in places like this in the US".
This was a great deal for the price.

A clean room with a good WIFI. The hotel had a really nice Onsen as well. The lounge next to it had an extensive manga collection (all in Japanese). I didn't pay for the breakfast, but kinda wish I did, since it looked really nice (it was 11 EUR extra).

A very quiet city in the remote Sanin region, from exploring the lores of the region to the food throughout the city, it was a great trip. The only note is that the shops here close earlier so you do have to set off earlier compared to usual. Other spots nearby that could be explored were Matsue and Yonago.

We found Matsue very walkable, the people were so friendly, and the city was a peaceful change from the larger cities. We also found a wonderful daytrip from there--Yuushien Garden was an inspiring spot, and the bus trip there and back was so interesting. We visited in early October, and also got to enjoy the Matsue Water Lantern Festival.

You can literally stay here all day as there's so much to see whether it's big or something so small. There are many eateries around. Get the bus from izumo station it doesn't take long. Remember take an umbrella as it gets quite hot. And just enjoy what is around 😃

The tourist information Centre was great.
The tourist information Centre was great. Had good information and most. There is a loop bus to take you to the Castle and other points. The observation deck at the Bank was wonderful. The views spectacular of Matsue. Looked a tidy place, well looked after and comfortable to visit.

Izumo is such a historical significance place for Japan, is a must visit if you want to know Japan history and culture. Not to miss is the soba as the texture is slightly more chewy. And of cause the onsen, is great! Did I mention the people are super friendly which made my stay unforgettable.

Fantastic scenery and food.
Fantastic scenery and food. Check out the beaches to the North but don't worry about the local mountain lookouts. They were all atrocious one lane roads in bad condition which only took you 3/4's of the way up the mountain which was then followed by your needing to walk another 1000 steps or more to get to the top. Good if you want the cardio but terrible in the middle of summer.
