Such a fantastic stay! Staff were so friendly and kind, location was fantastic, beds were comfy. It felt like a very trendy area, with late night cafes and good food.
There are no staff around in the morning, so if you want to hire a bike etc you will need to organise the night before.

Feels like relaxing in your home. Interior looks newly renovated. The owner easily addresses your concerns and the procedure for check in is easy. There is cafe/bar located on the first floor, so very convenient for refreshment. Price could be little expensive, but I think it is still reasonable. You are allowed to cook, which makes it more appealing. Washing machine is also available and it is a plus factor for long period of stay.

It isn’t a typical tourist destination from my understanding but the gardens by night are absolutely stunning. The casual is also beautiful and I’m sad to have missed the pottery class. Food and bars also exceptional - everybody is particularly friendly, and perhaps less used to accommodating tourists.
Coffee: Empire coffee roasters. Friendly service and outstanding coffee.
Food: Hidaya Yanigamachi. Grill your own delicious meat.
Drink: ichigin. Super friendly and will involve you in conversations even if you don’t speak Japanese.

Okayama is a great city to stay in if you want to visit nearby places like Hiroshima and Naoshima. The hotel is great, convenient, and comfortable. Close enough to the main transit hub -- I would stay here again.

We chose Okayama as a base for trips in central Japan...
We chose Okayama as a base for trips in central Japan because it is a stop on the shinkensen line. We bought a 7 day Sanyo-Sanin pass for about $150 and took day trips to Hiroshima, Kyoto, Naoshima (art island), Onomichi, Inujima, and Takahachi. Okayama itself is a charming modern city. Just about everyone rides a bike. Because it is not a tourist hub prices very reasonable. $500 for a week in a nice hotel with free breakfast, adult happy hour drinks at night, and an onsen. Restaurants were very reasonable. $15 will get you all you can eat and drink at a sushi restaurant. $10 for the best tonkatsu dinner outside of Tokyo. Although the city was flattened during WWII, some nice attractions remain. The Korakuen gardens are beautiful and overlook the Okayama castle. Kurashiki is 15 minutes away with its historic district built around a canal.
