The hotels location was perfect and has a long boardwalk built through the nature reserve which allows access to the beach and various good fun restaurants. The Bold Octopus being one is definitely worth a visit. We were lucky enough to drop in late one afternoon to sit on the roof terrace with a drink and enjoy live music. We returned one evening to eat there and the seafood menu was very good. Julia’s beach at the end of the boardwalk has a variety of beach bars and restaurants which are definitely work the ride (or long walk) to visit. We decided not to rent a car and use bikes rented from the hotel which proved to be perfectly adequate for sight seeing, visiting shops and restaurants. Hotel Quinta do Lago was beautifully furnished, had a wonderful pool with a good many sun beds for all of the guests and a fabulous breakfast!! Our room had a large sea view balcony and was spacious and well equipped. The bathroom was also very spacious, scrupulously clean and well stocked with products. The hotel staff made our stay with their friendliness and their willingness to help in every way possible. Can’t wait to go back
We visited Faro on All Saints Day when a lot of the shops, plus some Bars and Restaurants were closed. Some of the areas seem a little run down, abandoned buildings, and lots of graffiti, which is a great shame, as the architecture is fabulous.
This is an upmarket area in the Algarve. It is well maintained and a lovely place to relax. The Ria Formosa national park, which is nearby, is a beautiful place to walk and watch nature. If you are a golfer, this is a great place to stay, although playing golf here is expensive. The roads are clean and easy to get around. One of the best restaurants in the area is the Green Valley, which I highly recommend. There are several others offering good quality food.
In used Faro as as base to travel round southern Porrtugal. Transport links are good. The city itself is quite odd. There are a huge number of derelict buildings right next to new builds, which is jarring to British eyes. The Cidade Velha and the churches are worth visiting, restaurants are generaly very good, and the Ria Formosa is worth a boat trip, but it might not suit all tastes.
The hotel itself was good, but the location dreadful. The noise of airplanes taking off and landing every few minutes was constant from 6am. They were flying so low you could read the name of the airline with no difficulty. Perhaps would make a good de luxe airport hotel, but not a peaceful holiday hotel. On that basis would not recommend or return.
During our five-day stay in Faro, we enjoyed exploring the town on foot and taking in its impressive architecture (for those wishing to know about the history of Faro and Portugal, a highly informative (free) walking tour of the town is organised by the tourist office). We also enjoyed a guided boat tour to one of the surrounding islands, watching a magnificent sunset during our return. Faro has a very large number of restaurants offering a wide variety of different foods. We very much recommend the Cataplana stew!
Faro
The apartment is really close to the train/bus station, which was a key factor when we were choosing the place to stay before our flight from the Faro FAO Airport. The apartment has everything we needed for the short term stay, it was clean, check-in-out procedurę was easy, the host was flexible with hours of our arrival and the contact with the host was really smooth.
The reception area is very nice to walk into. The location is right on the marina and a short walk to everything. The bedding was very fresh and comfortable. The breakfast selection is big and plentiful. A comfortable night before we left Portugal from Faro Airport.
Lovely, small hotel with very obliging and helpful staff with close proximity to Faro Airport. Some nice restaurants within easy walking distance.
