Honolulu International Airport (HNL) Information
Location and Transport
Situated 6 miles (9 kilometres) northwest of central Honolulu, Honolulu International Airport (also known as 'Daniel K. Inouye International Airport') is connected by local buses, which depart every 30 minutes. Alternatively, the ‘SpeediShuttle’ bus provides a door-to-door pickup service, departing from Waikiki or Honolulu Harbor, while Taxicabs cost between USD 40 and take about 15 minutes.
Nearby Hotels and Airport Facilities
Travellers with scheduled stopovers or unexpected delays can choose between several hotels near the airport. Some hotels provide a shuttle service. Despite the crowds, staff at Hawaii’s biggest airport still greet visitors with ‘Lei’ – handmade fresh flower garlands – when arranged upon request. This is just a taster of things to come, with other attractions like ‘Cultural Gardens’ and a variety of artwork and murals found inside. Other services include duty-free shopping, ATMs and storage facilities.
Terminal Information
A wheelchair-friendly shuttle bus links the airport’s three terminals, operating regularly between 06:00 and 10:00. Catching a connecting flight at Honolulu International will require travellers to pass through immigration - a passport, visa or ESTA may be necessary.

Waikiki is the place to stay whether just for a week or much longer. If you want to go to the North Shore then the return traffic is always a problem. Waikiki Beach is fabulous, if always busy. A shopper's dream on Kalakaua. All kinds of exciting activities are available.

Location was exactly what we were looking for away from the chaos of Honolulu. Paradise Bay Resort is a great place to stay, Whiskey Smoke 808 Bar-b-Q is a good value, and Haleiwa Joe's Haiku Gardens is good but pricey. Enough stores and other options to have snacks for the room. Enough beach choices and other activities within a short drive.

Beautiful beach, that was the best part.
Beautiful beach, that was the best part. The prices in Hawaii are ridiculous. Very high. The are grocery stores that you can buy your own food and cook if you have a kitchen. Nice people. My fav was the taco truck that had such good fresh healthy food. I would eat there everyday. He was on Kihapai st and oneawa st , late in the evening. Best recommendation.
Its mostly safe, some homeless here and there not much in the residential areas. Few bars from high end, to crossroads to Kailua tavern that has the best karaoke bartender you have ever heard. He sings and makes your drinks.
Food is ok, if you are a foodies it's hit and miss.. in the restaurants..
Super fun, you can get amazing surfing cheap lessons with Mike and Andy at 808 Surt School by Kamehameha Hwy opposite of the shrimp shack.
Lot of great experiences, so much beautiful sun. Beautiful place. We'll be back.

Honolulu is getting busy so finding parking spots was not easy. Shops are open for long hours and people are walking on the street so makes it safe place to visit. Didn't have to worry about any crimes.

Although I thought the room needed upgrading, the property itself was lovely and the staff was great. I really enjoyed the easy-going feel of the place - just what I needed. It was often cloudy in the morning but sun came out in the afternoon. We rented a car which worked out great but they do charge a 15$ fee for parking each day. Overall I would stay again and would recommend to friends.

Kailua is a quiet place to stay, away from the crowds in Honolulu. It is close to beaches and has easy access to grocery stores and restaurants in town. Access to activities in Honolulu are not far way via the Pali Highway.

Honolulu, and the area of Wikiki is amazing.
Honolulu, and the area of Wikiki is amazing. Gorgeous beach with incredible views of Diamond Head. Water is warm and beach bottom sand and pleasant. Mild waves and kid friendly. The main road at night is like Las Vegas. Lot of people, but tropical. Palm trees, Tiki torches. LOTS to do, from dinner to shopping. I HIGHLY urge you to plan ahead and make dinner reservations, otherwise there are LONG lines to any eatery if you just go at say 6 or 7. They move fast, but that isn't fun when you're hungry. I recommend renting a car and driving 83 to North Shore. Stop at Giovanni's food truck for famous Garlic Shrimp. Also, Pearl Harbor you can just show up and buy tickets and go see what YOU want. No need for a 6 hour tour. There is horrendous traffic on the H1 and H2, but it moves and you will be fine. Try surfing!
