I truly enjoyed my stay at the Caravelle Hotel on St. Croix. It is my go-to hotel for accommodations whenever I travel to St. Croix for work. The hotel provides a quiet comfortable environment for rest and relaxation. My stay was exceptional, and room was spacious, it had a desk and other amenities but, I like that I was able to sit at a desk to get some additional office work completed. Notably, there is a restaurant on the property, which is very convenient. Unfortunately, I did not get to dine at the restaurant during my stay but, I have eaten at the restaurant during in the past. The food is great, and they have great menu options. Lastly, the Caravelle staff is professional, helpful, and informative especially the front desk agents. I was a little worried about getting stuck on the island because Hurricane Erin was traveling and expected to come near the Virgin Islands. The front desk agent, Aisha, however, assured me that the hotel was equipped to provide any necessary essentials, safety, care, and continued electricity so that guests are cared for and comfortable during a storm, if required. She certainly made me feel at ease, fortunately I made it home before the weather came.

The location was fantastic, right off a main road, but in a quiet neighborhood. The apartment was large, with a king sized bed in the main bedroom, a queen-sized bed in the living area along with a comfortable sectional sofa. The kitchen was small, but was kitted out with everything you needed -- new pots, pans, ample silverware, dishes, cups, drip coffee-maker, and electric kettle. There may have even been some appliances that we didn't find or use! We cooked our meals; if you have never used a propane stove, don't hesitate to ask for instructions (you need to self-light it). The property has a small swimming pool which we didn't use, but it was a nice touch. These apartments are in an older-style but all of the furnishings were new in the unit we rented. There are also 2 AC units (modified window ones) which were a tad noisy but since we had ceiling fans in the living and bedroom, we used those more than the AC units. We weren't in there for most of the day anyway since we came to go scuba diving. Also, Russ is a gracious host, he was understanding and sympathetic when we told him we were stuck in San Juan. Check in/out couldn't have been any easier - he showed up with the keys as soon as we got there and for check-out all we did was leave them inside and let him know. Personally we love renting an apartment, we like to source and prepare our meals, we appreciate the extra space -- we also had a nice balcony -- and we don't need maid service and things like that. If you're self-sufficient and like doing your own thing, renting an apartment from Red Awning is for you!

I was in Christiansted, St.

I was in Christiansted, St. Croix on business, and I would not recommend visiting the island for leisure. While it’s a beautiful Caribbean island, it has clearly been terribly mismanaged for many years. This is evident in the poor infrastructure, run-down streets, and the overwhelming amount of junk cars and trash along the roads. There is also a noticeable lack of restaurants and stores, which limits dining and shopping options. Overall, the state of the island was disappointing.

Lots of shops and great places to eat.

Lots of shops and great places to eat. Grocery prices are UNBELIEVABLY HIGH. I packed about 35# of frozen food in my checked luggage to help offset food costs. IE: 1 quart of milk was $ 9.99 at grocery store 😨, half pound of bacon was $ 19.99...YIKES

No air conditioning in master bedroom.

No air conditioning in master bedroom. Water leak in master bath. Uncomfortable twin beds in guest room. Small shower in guest room. Mold smell. Very limited internet. Dirty/soiled living room furniture. Dirty outdoor furniture. Beautiful view but beach not for swimming. The Landing was our favorite spot. Avoid towing traps downtown.

We stayed at our resort the whole time because we didn’t want to leave so I can’t rate Frederiksted. We ordered a taxi before we left and Henry was waiting for us at the airport. We called him again to take us back and he was there on time.

Loved the countryside, restaurants, people were friendly and helpful, shopping very enjoyable, downtown night life very enjoyable, visited several beaches and all were beautiful, loved the ocean, and did not have a bad meal at any restaurant. I especially liked the hospitality shown to me at various sites throughout the island. Historically interesting also ...

Frederiksted is definitely a sleepy town.

Frederiksted is definitely a sleepy town. Not much happening there and even less activity since Covid. Its quaint and has a few nice restaurants. Walking the peer is a good activity, but in general Christiansted is much more lively.

Christiansted boardwalk had plenty of restaurants and bars.

Christiansted boardwalk had plenty of restaurants and bars. For breakfast we recommend Christine. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Bombay. Without a car travel is difficult. The cars were all rented when we arrived and there were none available. The taxi drivers change their rates and you always feel like you’re being hustled. We were less than 2 miles from the boardwalk and they wanted $40.00 each way. The driver $200 for a ride to and from Pointe Uddell.

If you're looking for complete quiet and solitude this is the place. There are many improvements that could be made such as handicap access, a bulletin notifying guests of events such as a band, music nightly would be nice, a can opener in the room, and better TV provider.
