At the Rainfreville workshop, Marie‑Laure and Arnaud will welcome you to a session focused on traditional fireplace sweeper manufacturing. You’ll be introduced to the art of fireplace brush making in an intimate setting designed for up to two participants. The atmosphere is hands-on and personal, allowing close contact with the craft. You’ll spend the time learning about the techniques behind these traditional brushes as the hosts explain and demonstrate their methods. Along the way you’ll try the processes yourself and take part directly in making a fireplace brush. The experience centres on observing the craft, practising key steps under guidance, and gaining an understanding of how these items are made by hand.

At La Balaiterie’s Straw Fly Swatter Workshop you will join a hands-on craft session set in a quaint, family-run workshop. The experience begins with a short tour where you’ll watch how brooms and brushes are made by hand and learn about the tradition of handmade sorghum straw brooms in France. Along the way, the hosts will explain the techniques used to make their bespoke fly swatters. You will then get hands-on time to make your own straw fly swatter. The workshop is simple and accessible for all ages and skill levels, and you’ll be able to personalise your piece using a choice of colourful straws and strings. By the end of the session you will have crafted a functional, decorative item to take home. Taking part also supports a small family business: La Balaiterie was founded in spring 2020 by a passionate couple committed to preserving traditional small workshop skills.
