At the ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo, you'll get a chance to explore one of the oldest zoos in Europe. On this one–hour boat tour, you’ll cruise through the canals of Utrecht and explore the city from the water. You'll head to a cozy venue, where a knowledgeable instructor will welcome you and share stories of the sweet treat's rich history. At the National Holocaust Museum you will follow the story of the Nazi persecution and murder of the Jews of the Netherlands. The exhibition places that history in context, noting that before the Second World War Jews and non-Jews lived side by side and had the same rights. It also explains the wider tragedy of the Holocaust, or Shoah, when the Nazis and their collaborators killed around six million Jews in Europe. As you move through the museum, you will encounter the history of persecution across the whole of the Netherlands—the first and only museum to relate that national story. Along the way, the displays explore day-to-day life for Jewish people on the eve of war, the experience of liberation as felt by Jews, and the way the Holocaust has been treated in Dutch culture of remembrance.
