Departing from Barcelona, you'll journey to Montserrat mountain in an air-conditioned coach. Upon arrival at the majestic mountain, which rises 1,236 metres above sea level, you'll make your way up by a cogwheel train to the Royal Basilica of Montserrat. On this 15-minute trip up the mountain, you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of Catalonia's landscapes.
Founded in 1025, the monastery is home to the statue of the Black Madonna, the patron saint of Catalonia, enshrined in the monastery's Royal Basilica. The statue, also known as Virgen Moreneta, or the Black Virgin, was carved in the 12th century. The half-day trip is approximately 4.5 hours long, and the cogwheel train ride is wheelchair-friendly.
