This three-hour hike of one of Iceland's most famous glaciers will give you a chance to see ice formations, deep crevasses and panoramic icy vistas. You will receive safety instructions and learn the fundamentals of rope-work from your expert guide and don all the essential glacier hiking gear before embarking on the excursion.
From the Skaftafell Visitor Centre, you'll be driven to the edge of the outlet glacier of Falljökull, which is part of Iceland's highest mountain – Skaftafell. This mountain range is also home to one of the world's largest glacier sand areas and the Hvannadalshnjúkur peak, which you may be able to see on a clear day. You can spend your time walking on the ancient ice blocks, peering down deep vertical shafts and observing brilliant frost formations and the general empty wilderness.
