Start your excursion in Piano Provenzana, on the north side of Etna. Board a comfortable 4×4 bus and follow the unpaved road that climbs the volcano to the Pizzi Deneri Astrophysical Observatory, located at 2810 m.
Enjoy the view of ancient craters and beautiful views stretching to the sea. Once you reach 2805m, make a short trek up to 2865m altitude (depending on the activity of the volcano).
From this vantage point you can admire the beautiful Valle del Bove below the northeast crater. Learn about the volcano with your volcanology guide while admiring the panoramic view of the Sicilian coast.
Then you will get back on the bus and get off at 2200m. After a short trek of about 20 minutes, you will reach the rim of the crater from the 2002 eruption. At the end of the tour, take the 4×4 bus and return to Piano Provenzana.
