Full day guided coach tour to Vera Stanhope’s world of murder! Duration 9 - 9.5 hours About Step into the world of DCI Vera Stanhope on this Vera Tour of Northumberland, a journey through more than 15 film locations featured in the beloved ITV crime drama. From Newcastle’s vibrant Quayside along the River Tyne to the sweeping Northumberland coast, this guided coach tour brings fans closer to the iconic landscapes and memorable scenes spanning all 14 seasons of Vera. Ann Cleeves’ gruff, no-nonsense detective – instantly recognizable in her trademark mac and bucket hat – has captivated audiences in over 170 territories. In this full day guided tour fans will have a chance to follow in her footsteps across Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. We have carefully selected some a range of iconic locations, from the very first pilot episode to the poignant closing scenes of the series finale. Your day begins in Newcastle, with stops at the Quayside and views of the city’s seven famous bridges. From there, you’ll visit Vera’s first police headquarters in Wallsend, followed by North Shields Fish Quay—where she scatters her father’s ashes in the opening scene of the series in “Hidden Depths”. Next, explore the elegant Victorian seaside towns of Tynemouth and Whitley Bay, frequently featured in the show and also home to author Ann Cleeves herself. Leaving Tyneside behind, the tour follows the coastal route into the heart of Northumberland. Highlights include the Woodhorn Museum, Amble, Warkworth, Alnmouth, and Seahouses—with stunning views of the Farne Islands—before passing Bamburgh and finally crossing the tidal causeway to Holy Island (Lindisfarne). Used extensively in the Christmas special “The Rising Tide”, Lindisfarne is also depicted as Vera’s home. The return journey winds through the rolling Northumberland countryside, brushing more remote and atmospheric locations featured in the series. Your final stop is the Stanhope Arms, a hidden gem of a pub shown in the closing scenes of the last ever episode “The Dark Wives”. Throughout the tour, you will see over 15 filming locations spanning the entire series. While some sites will be drive-by viewings, you’ll enjoy several photo opportunities and stops for comfort breaks—morning stop at North Shields, lunch at Seahouses, and free time to explore Lindisfarne. With film clips accompanying your journey, our knowledgeable expert guides will give you great insights as well as amusing anecdotes and background information about the show. The Vera Tour departs from and returns to Bewick Street, just outside Newcastle Central Station.
