The evening meal was amazing. The next day our breakfast was perfectly adequate to set us up for our journey ahead. Gregor and his daughter are lovely and the most perfect hosts. We had a top floor room and it was quiet, comfortable, well furnished and with a stunning view. We were driving from England to Romania and planned to stop halfway at Gregor's place. We arrived early evening having driven from Calais in France. We called ahead when we were about an hour away and we had pre-booked an evening meal. The area is so perfectly quiet, just outside of Deggendorf. We were given such a warm welcome by Gregor and his daughter (and baby granddaughter!) We had home made schnitzels and sides and it was lovely, sitting outside overlooking the Danube valley in the evening sun, washing it down with a lovely German beer. The missus had red wine. The next day breakfast was perfectly adequate to set us up for the journey ahead onwards to Romania. Seven days later we returned to Zum Horizont on our journey home. Again Gregor and his daughter were the perfect hosts making us feel like friends we had not seen for a while. This time the evening meal was duck. OMG! it was delicious! Again, washed down with German beer. My only regret is that we only stayed overnight each time. We will, 100% definitely, absolutely and guaranteed be returning to Zum Horizont when we again drive to Romania, this time staying a few days to explore the area. Thank you Gregor. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

This is a roadside inn on the outskirts of the Bavarian town of Deggendorf. We were using it for one night as a stopover, while we were traveling through Germany. It is in a small village a few kilometers from the city proper and the landscape is serene and extremely beautiful with forests, rolling hills and wide valleys. It is very quiet, peaceful and relaxing and is the perfect place for people looking for a pastoral and relaxing environment, outside the bustle of the city. The room was clean and spacious with a private bathroom and windows overlooking the surrounding hills. The buffet breakfast was nice and the traditional German countryside aesthetic was very unique. This place offers overall excellent price-value ratio. I am hoping to return in the future for some quiet relaxation, now that I have discovered this place.

I visited Schloss Egg last year for the first time. I really loved staying at the castle. I had an opportunity to stay there again this year with my cousin after showing them the pictures. I will visit Schloss Egg every time I am in Germany. Sarah, the manager, did a great job the entire time we were there. Two thumbs up to her!

Loved the location! The view is breathtaking. Beds were amazing, slept like a baby. Travelled with my cat as well - she was safe to roam around. The Host was very friendly and helpful - waited for us in the evening to show around the property and explain all benefits. Breakfast was delicious, with all fresh products you can imagine.
