Our three-night stay at Matraville Homestay was a very welcome change-of-pace after jungle treks and volcano hikes in Bukit Lawang and Berestagi. Our unit was VERY large (it would have easily suited a family of four) and well-appointed with a TV, fridge, sink and kettle for use. It was also spread over two levels, with the downstairs serving as the entrance/living room area/kitchenette, and the bedroom and bathroom/separate shower area upstairs. BONUS(ES): the unit entrance featured a little patio with a table and chair where you could have an early-morning coffee or tea while facing the sunrise; the upstairs level also provided a small balcony area to take in the morning sun or evening dusk. While the room we chose was across the street from the water (a 90-second walk at most, down a couple of shallow flights of steps, and therefore didn’t provide a direct waterfront view), there are two rooms available in another portion of the property that face the water and are just steps from it. Our excellent Host, Dimmer, picked us up from the Tuk Tuk ferry landing (and can also drop you off when you depart) and will provide you with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable, including tips on places to eat or have coffee nearby and suggestions for what to do/see on Samosir Island. He will also provide scooters for daily/multi-day use for very reasonable rates.

Our first stop in Sumatra was at Lilly's Guesthouse, where we were very warmly welcomed by her and her husband Ishako. From the first moment we felt welcome and completely at home. We booked a two-day jungle trek. Our adventure began on the second day after our arrival, together with our guide Iman and a French couple, Carolane and Romain. There was immediately a nice click, and so we trekked into the jungle together. Blood, sweat, but no tears - what an experience! Without Iman, the trek would definitely not have been the same. What a top guy! After two days of trekking and a night's sleep in the middle of the jungle, we arrived safely back at the guesthouse. How happy we were to finally shower again and sleep in a comfortable bed! As icing on the cake, we also enjoyed a wonderful massage - how good that felt! After that we wanted to travel on to Lake Toba, and coincidentally that was also Lilly's plan with her family. Transportation was completely arranged by them, and together we traveled to our next destination. Along the way, we had lunch together, took the same ferry and once again shared beautiful, enjoyable moments. In Tuktuk our paths parted, as we had each booked our own guesthouse, but we met up a few more times. Each time it was a warm reunion! What we really want to say: we felt like one of them. Amazing room, big, clean, spaceous bathroom, well maintained. Great view, good fresh breakfast. Owner amazingly helpful, even ensured my safe shared car travel and checked back with me.

I think this is the first time I know I'm definitely visiting a destination again just because of the accommodation experience I've had.

Objekt JUNGLE LIFE GUEST HOUSE - Trekking & Transport Only Book With Us u gradu 'Bukit Lawang' nalazi se uz plažu, a ima bar. Staff were great for organising trips. Super close to the start of the treks and a lovely view of the river. Staff helped book the tours and transport in and out of Bukit Lawang.

Objekt Toba Boi nudi smještaj u gradu 'Tuk Tuk'. Privatni smještaj nudi pogled na planinu i terasu. U objektu Toba Boi sve sobe nude balkon s pogledom na jezero. I liked everything about my stay here, the bed was really comfy and shower hot... Really good value for money... Mr Dong and his wife were amazing hosts and made me feel like home, we spent a lot of time together, hung out and had a good time! See you in 10 years...

Objekt SeaGate Bungalows nalazi se u gradu 'Sabang' te sadrži vrt, privatnu plažu, terasu ibesplatan WiFi u cijelom objektu. The absolute best place to stay on Palau Weh.😊 If you can get in and want a truly memorable experience this is your place. Yuyun and Borja are the perfect hosts nothing is too much trouble, they booked us on a fantastic tour and everything they recommend was amazing. Yuyun is a great cook and the restaurant has a fantastic view as do the rooms.

Super comfy bed, hot shower, great breakfast… and mostly the kindness of the owners and team. Thank you for taking care of me during my days there! Missing Chacha already!

Objekt Sumatra Cheeky Monkeys u gradu 'Bukit Lawang' ima vrt, zajednički salon, terasu i bar. Ovaj objekt nudi obiteljske sobe i roštilj. My stay at Cheeky Monkeys was brilliant. Sarah, Ade and the team were fantastic and helped me out when I needed a last minute trek into the jungle. My guide Rial was fantastic too. A really peaceful escape.
