Our three-night stay at Matraville Homestay was a very welcome change-of-pace after jungle treks and volcano hikes in Bukit Lawang and Berestagi. Our unit was VERY large (it would have easily suited a family of four) and well-appointed with a TV, fridge, sink and kettle for use. It was also spread over two levels, with the downstairs serving as the entrance/living room area/kitchenette, and the bedroom and bathroom/separate shower area upstairs. BONUS(ES): the unit entrance featured a little patio with a table and chair where you could have an early-morning coffee or tea while facing the sunrise; the upstairs level also provided a small balcony area to take in the morning sun or evening dusk. While the room we chose was across the street from the water (a 90-second walk at most, down a couple of shallow flights of steps, and therefore didn’t provide a direct waterfront view), there are two rooms available in another portion of the property that face the water and are just steps from it. Our excellent Host, Dimmer, picked us up from the Tuk Tuk ferry landing (and can also drop you off when you depart) and will provide you with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable, including tips on places to eat or have coffee nearby and suggestions for what to do/see on Samosir Island. He will also provide scooters for daily/multi-day use for very reasonable rates.

Great view, good fresh breakfast. Owner amazingly helpful, even ensured my safe shared car travel and checked back with me.

Rob was a great host making sure that I had everything I needed for my very short stay in Padang. The guest house is clean and spacious and the view is amazing.

Nær stranden i Bukit Lawang ligger JUNGLE LIFE GUEST HOUSE - Trekking & Transport Only Book With Us, som har en bar. Staff were great for organising trips. Super close to the start of the treks and a lovely view of the river. Staff helped book the tours and transport in and out of Bukit Lawang.

Toba Boi tilbyr overnatting i Tuk Tuk. Overnattingsstedet har rom med utsikt over fjellet i tillegg til terrasse. På Toba Boi har alle rommene balkong med utsikt over innsjøen. I liked everything about my stay here, the bed was really comfy and shower hot... Really good value for money... Mr Dong and his wife were amazing hosts and made me feel like home, we spent a lot of time together, hung out and had a good time! See you in 10 years...

Yuyun and Borja are the perfect hosts nothing is too much trouble, they booked us on a fantastic tour and everything they recommend was amazing. Yuyun is a great cook and the restaurant has a fantastic view as do the rooms.
