I don't even know where to start: this is THE place to be when you visit Padang! The host Dila is incredibly sweet and welcoming. She makes you feel at home right away. She knows where to take her guests for local and cheap food, and she even knows some good options for vegetarians. Dila knows many hidden gems in and around Padang and she takes beautiful pictures and amazing videos of the places that she visits with her guests. The room is clean, and breakfast very tasty. I only stayed one night, but Dila already feels like a friend. I highly recommend her place to stay. The accomodation is outside of the center of town but don't let it stop you from staying there. The owner was super helpful and was eager to answer any questions through WhatsApp from the moment we booked. Getting a trek was super easy through him once we arrived and the trek was amazing. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and seemed to always be the first to spot an orangutan out of nowhere. Example: "I smell orangutan poo. Give me one second." Then runs off for two minutes and beckons us over pointing up at the tree to a mama and baby very early on. The bed in our room was amazing. Like a firm memory foam. Same for the pillow. For me, that is an ideal sleep. And the location was great. It was right in the middle of the village, so it was about the same distance left or right to the end of the strip. Can't beat the price.

We stayed in Bukit Lawang and it was amazing. Our guide Monang was very kind and took care of us all the time. We went to the jungle and saw orangutans and other monkeys. It was a big dream for me! After the trek we came back on the river with a fun rafting boat, it was so great. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with nice people. We felt welcome and safe. I really recommend this place and our guide Monang, he was fantastic and made our trip very special.

My experience at Kupu Kupu Guesthouse was absolutely amazing. They have the kindest staff, each and every one of them went out of their way to make the stay special to us! The Kupu Kupu team felt like family, and their service at the guesthouse as well as during the two day jungle trek we did was more than perfect. Rooms are clean and cozy, the view from the guesthouse is beautiful, and the two day trek we did with them is an experience I will never forget! The breakfast is delicious and even the transfers arranged via them were perfect and done by super friendly drivers. Thank you again to the whole team for making our sumatra trip truely wonderful!
