Our host, Kousuke, is super nice, and made delicious breakfast. The property has a beautiful small garden in the middle. Bed is very comfortable.

Set just 1.2 km from Remains of Ochaya - Honzin, 西条ゲストハウス八反 offers accommodation in Higashihiroshima with access to a bar, a shared lounge, as well as a shared kitchen. Overall this was better than some private accommodations I have stayed in the past. The hostel room only has 6 beds. The bathrooms were clean and specious. Really enjoyed. Bed was nice after sleeping on wood tile for 3 days.

1 km from Oogamiyama Omoto Shrine, ゲストハウス尾道ポポー Guesthouse Onomichi Pawpaw is located in Onomichi and provides air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. They stored our bags for free while we biked the Shimanami Kaido. Great communication.

Guest house kusunoki（women only） is set in Fukuyama, 9 km from Miroku no Sato, 9 km from Jodoji Temple, and 10 km from Oogamiyama Omoto Shrine. The building has been beautifully renovated, everything is new and plush. I’ve never stayed in such a first class hostel. The sliding doors for privacy by each bed are just great! The owner is lovely and strives to give an excellent service. He let me check in early because I arrived by bicycle (twice in fact). I returned because I liked it so much and felt at home. The place is probably the cleanest hotel in Japan, and that’s saying something. Also, the dining room chairs are so comfortable. Highly recommend.

Boasting sea views, Guest House Gamigami provides accommodation with a garden, a terrace and a shared lounge, around 3.1 km from Saikon-ji Temple. Gamigami is located with a fantastic view across the inland sea with islands near and in the distance. It is a pity that cables are in this view as seen from the rooms but you can go up on the flat roof for an unobstructed view. It is not very far on a nearly flat road to the ferry to Onomichi so it makes a good last night if you are cycling from Imabari taking several days as we did. We had a comfort Japanese style room.

Offering sea views, Onomichi Guest House Miharashi-tei is an accommodation set in Onomichi, 70 metres from Senkoji Temple and 700 metres from Onomichi History Museum. Onomichi Guest House blew my husband and I away. We had the pleasure of staying for NYE; there is no better place to enjoy the sunrise on January 1st. It is located right below Senkoji, the most popular temple. The cafe has an old-timey vibe and guests can use it freely to relax, including bringing in your own food. I tried the ginger latte, it was delicious. The staff is very kind. The two-person room we booked, although small, was cozy and have good storage for luggage. We did have a large and small suitcase with us, but by taking some breaks along the way we had no problem going up and down the stairs to get to the guest house. The staff can keep your bags for you outside of check-in and check-out time. Two shared toilets are in the same building as the rooms, and two showers are in a separate building next door. If you are able to handle climbing up and down stairs and don't mind sharing facilities, don't hesitate to book a night or two here.

Set just 5.4 km from Ikejiri Children's Park, 88 House Hiroshima offers accommodation in Hiroshima with access to a garden, a shared lounge, as well as a shared kitchen. 88House is filled with authentic charm and a homely warm aura. From the moment you open the front door you are greeted with a beautiful garden and open green spaces to explore within the grounds. We were very late to check in (about 11pm), and the owner Kengo-san waited up for us in order to show us to our room and give us a clear explanation about how to use the facilities. We sincerely appreciated that. Our room was spacious, clean, and very calming to rest in. Heating AC in the room was a godsend for the cold nights, and the showers had hot water and a modern WC with bidet. There is also a shared kitchen to prepare your food and throw trash. There’s a lot to appreciate and admire in 88House Hiroshima. From the beautiful Yukimi shoji doors in the rooms that lets in the natural daylight whilst still retaining privacy, to the beautiful wooden beams and rafters and wooden light fixtures. A lot of interesting books and ornaments adorn the walkway, and there’s even a small section of kids toys to entertain the little ones. Kengo-san has made sure to leave lots of flyers and pamphlets of events/exhibtions, and a variety of things to do and explore in the area, so check the table near the entrance genkan. There is a lot of greenery around you and a small stream outside the property, as well as Kengo-san’s sweet potato fields. Kengo-san is very friendly and my partner and I are very thankful to have had a chance to stay in his home. We highly highly recommend staying here if you are in Hiroshima and want a slice of Japanese home living away from the city. We hope to come back and stay again, and I hope Kengo-san can bring us for that hike up the mountain behind his house to see the Kannon statue!
