Offering rooms with impeccable rustic style décor and garden views, this inn just 30 km off Machu Picchu, features red-tiled terraced Spanish galleries and views of the surrounding scenery. Staying at El Albergue Ollantaytambo was genuinely one of the best decisions we made on the trip, hands down. First off, the location is perfect. Ollantaytambo itself is a fascinating town with a history to match—it’s the only one still using the Inca grid system! Plus, it offers two great, fun treks: the ruins and the granaries. But the real boon is its position right AT the station, making it the ultimate base for Machu Picchu. Getting up a couple of hours earlier than everyone else for the trek is great, but there's nothing better than coming back and immediately checking in instead of having to deal with another grueling 2-4 hour bus ride back to Cusco. It's also much more comfortable being at 9,500 ft instead of the 11,500 ft elevation of Cusco. Beyond the incredible convenience, El Albergue is simply an exceptional hotel in its own right. The service is beyond reproach; everyone on the property was so incredibly friendly and attentive. It truly makes the entire experience. The rooms are impeccably designed and wonderfully comfortable. I have to specifically shout out the gorgeous art throughout the rooms and common areas—it’s stunning, and seemingly much of it is from the proprietor, Wendy Weeks. The on-site amenities are another huge plus. The restaurant has exceptional food, and breakfast starts early (6 a.m.) with a great variety. You absolutely MUST book the wonderful Pachamanca lunch beforehand. They also have a local coffee roastery and a distillery right there; we had a great tour at both and really enjoyed the products, especially the Matacuy. Oh, and there are the most adorable dogs on the property, too! Overall, El Albergue was one of our favorite stays in Peru. We had a great time and are genuinely looking forward to coming back.

Amaru Colonial is a colonial inn in the artistic SanBlas district, 2 blocks from San Blas square. The charming central courtyard features soft lighting and a colorful flower garden. Quiet location close to Plaza de Armas, clean & comfortable rooms, friendly staff and good breakfast. On a previous one night stay, I had posted about not being able to get change for taxi. The hotel approached me on my return stay to explain the reasons and to offer something in return. I appreciated the hotel’s efforts to explain and remedy, and although I did not take up the offer, it shows a very good attitude.

Hosteria de Anita is a lively family-run guest house in the artistic San Blass District, central Cuzco. Mukava henkilökunta, siistit huoneet, kiva miljöö, hyvä aamiainen. He säilyttivät tavaroitamme useaan otteeseen kun kävimme erilaisilla monen päivän retkillä. Saimme myös rauhassa hengailla aulassa ja odottaa yöbussin lähtöä. Ilmainen, aina saatavilla oleva tee oli vielä plussaa!

In Cusco´s San Blas art district, Amaru Inca is set in a colonial house with internal patio and garden, featuring scenic views. It has character, it is one of the cleanest i have ever been, the room had enough space for the suitcases, and it is situated at the heart of the city. Also, every single one person of the staff is lovely, friendly, happy to help at all times, and super polite. Especially señora Epifania was the sweetest! Highly recommended!

Offering a shared lounge and city view, Yanuy Culinary Stay and Taste is set in Cusco, 2.7 km from Wanchaq Train station and 600 metres from San Pedro Train Station. The host Michael was awesome and very helpful. The house is spacious with the rooms having all you need for a solo trip or with someone. The breakfast is made by the host every morning and he pays attention to every detail, which makes you feel like at home

Boasting garden views, Magnolia Andina Hostel features accommodation with patio, around 1.6 km from Wanchaq Train station. Owner is so helpful and friendly Location is great a lot of good and cheap restaurants surrounding Plenty of cheap laundry service and nice breakfast

Killitas home&apart offers accommodation within less than 1 km of the centre of Cusco, with free WiFi, and a kitchenette with a microwave, a fridge and kitchenware. Felt right at home, extremely friendly hosts. Great location, felt safe. Clean bathroom, enough space in room for luggage, good breakfast. Would definitely come again.

Featuring mountain views, Refugio de Mery Lucmabamba offers accommodation with a garden and a terrace, around 19 km from Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary. Mery’s refugie is a total bless. The shower was actually running hot water! The bed was comfortable and warm, and both the dinner and breakfast prepared by Mery were the best food I’ve had in Peru! The fried trucha and the homemade guacamole were god’s food. For such a cost you really cannot find a better performance! Highly recommend!
