Read moreThe best time to visit Brazil is from September to October. This lets you avoid the busiest holiday periods, the harsh winters in the south, and the peak of the wet season. Brazil’s warmest months are also its wettest, so it’s generally best to avoid the high season between December and March, particularly if you’re planning on wildlife watching in the Amazon or the Pantanal, which are best visited between July and September. Rio’s world-famous Carnaval takes place in February or early March, and it’s without a doubt one of the most unforgettable parties you can attend. If you’re into windsurfing or kiteboarding, a trip to São Miguel do Gostoso, Taiba, or Cumbuco offer great conditions between May and February.

Monthly weather and travel tips for Brazil
It's the peak of summer in January, and with average temperatures around 80ºF, it’s certainly worth considering a trip to the beach. However, it can get very rainy this month so be sure to check forecasts and figure out whether you’ll need a beach towel or umbrella.
The maritime procession in Angra dos Reis onJanuary 1st is a great way to see in the new year, as thousands of boats parade along the water. Three Kings Day, celebrated on January6th, brings celebrations featuring musical performances and dancing to many cities across the country. The warm January weather means this is a prime time to visit Rio and Copacabana which offer a party atmosphere without the huge carnival crowds of February.

Brazil’s world-famous “Carnaval” celebrations sweep across the country and swarms of beachgoers compete for the best spots to lay their towels. Crowd levels peak in February, but if you’re content to jostle, you’ll be able to attend one of the best parties on the planet. The weather remains hot and rainy with scorching temperatures of up to 95ºF, so pack light layers and waterproofs.
Carnivals are held in lots of major cities like São Paulo and Salvador, but the most famous of all takes place in Rio de Janeiro. The event takes place in February or early March for the 5 days before Ash Wednesday. Join millions of partiers to watch the top dance schools in the country perform the samba during dazzling parades of colors, costumes, and music.

It’s still high season in most of Brazil as temperatures continue to hover around 100°F. Carnival celebrations may still be occurring in major cities if Ash Wednesday falls in March, so be prepared for extra crowds if so. If the latter celebration isn’t happening, this month can be more pleasant if you just want to explore different parts of the country, but the possibility of summer storms means you’ll want to pack waterproofs and a good umbrella along with light layers.
The annual Brazilian Beer Festival takes place in Blumenau every March over 4 days, with local and international breweries offering you the chance to try over 140 types of beer. If there are no carnival crowds around, head to São Paulo to treat your palate to some of the best food in the country or soak up some of the over 2,400 miles of shoreline which includes wonderful spots like Alter do Chao in Pará or the volcanic archipelago of Fernando de Noronha.

As temperatures and crowd numbers begin to drop, April can be a very pleasant month to visit many parts of Brazil. The Pantanal enters its dry season towards the end of the month, and Holy Week brings a number of religious celebrations, as well as a chance to try some homemade chocolate eggs. Heavy rain tends to continue in most regions and temperatures average between 65–85ºF.
While Holy Week festivities take place across the country, the celebrations in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais are some of the most notable, as the city covers itself in flowers and colorful carpets laid on the streets. Other popular Holy Week events are found in Cidade de Goiás, Congonhas, and São João del Rei. Lollapalooza Brasil usually takes place on the first weekend of April in São Paulo and gives you the chance to catch the biggest names in rock, hip hop, and electronic music over three days.

Things quiet down in May and temperatures are noticeably cooler, especially in the south where they fall as low as 57ºF on some days. This period between the rainy season (February to April) and the hot, dry season (September to November) is a good time to explore the Amazon, when you have the best opportunities for boat trips and hiking in pleasant weather.
The celebrations of Carnival and Holy Week may have passed, but there’s still plenty of events taking place in Brazil. São Paulo hosts Virada Cultural Paulistana – the biggest 24-hour festival in the world. Not only is it free to get in, but you’ll be able to attend various events around the city such as live music performances and films. The coastal town of Torres is also worth visiting for its annual International Ballooning Festival. Along with lots of hot-air enthusiasts, it’s also home to concerts, films, and extreme sports like skydiving.

Winter weather creeps across the south in June, with temperatures dropping to 53ºF. However, in the north it’s a very different story, with parts of the country still hitting 85ºF, though with a lot more rain than in the south.
São Paulo’s Gay Pride Parade takes place every June on the Sunday after the Corpus Christi public holiday, which is the biggest of its kind in the world. Celebrate pride with millions of people in a parade of parties, cultural fairs, and other activities aimed at celebrating diversity. In Rio, the best runners in the world take part in what is considered one of the most scenic marathons in the world, passing by mountainsides and seafronts. Other key events include the Festival Folclórico do Amazonas in Manaus which features a variety of regional folklore performances, as well as Festa de São João – a month-long party showcasing traditional music and dancing.

July is Brazil’s coldest month, so no matter which part of the country you visit it’s best to bring a warm coat for the evening. Average temperatures fall between 53 and 82ºF, still warm enough to enjoy the beaches of Rio in the southeast, the tropical wetlands of the Pantanal, and the Amazon rainforest. School holidays last for practically the entire month so expect most attractions to be busier than usual.
Despite the cooler weather, Brazil keeps the spirit of summer alive with a variety of fun events, such as the Campos do Jordão Winter Festival which features a whole month of live performances. There’s also FLIP (Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty) between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, where literary lovers can attend workshops, lectures, and debates. Mountain regions are most popular at this time, as locals enjoy indoor skiing, hiking,or sightseeing in places such as the Serra Gaúcha and the hills of Rio.

Comfortable temperatures and minimal rainfall make August one of the best times to visit Brazil. You might want to consider exploring the Pantanal where you have a good chance of spotting jaguars basking on the banks of lakes and rivers. Daytime temperatures tend to be around the mid 70s but can fall drastically in the evening so be sure to bring a good coat.
The southern town of Gramado holds its annual international film festival in August, when the best offerings of Brazilian and other Latin American films of the year are showcased over 9 days. In the midwest, the week-long Bananada music festival takes place in Goiânia, transforming the town into a hub of alternative music, culture, food, and even skateboarding championships.

The world-famous Rock in Rio alternates between its spiritual home of Rio and an international guest city every other year. The biggest bands take to the stage, with past headliners including Elton John, Guns N’Roses, and Rihanna. To soak up some early spring colors, head to the charming city of Holambra – the largest producer of flowers and ornamental plants in Latin America. Their annual Expoflora festival gives over 400 local producers the chance to showcase their plants to more than 300,000 visitors.

Oktoberfest comes to many of Brazil’s cities in a big way, particularly in Blumenau where a big parade leads into over two weeks of beer drinking and folk music – the second-biggest celebration after the original Munich festival. By the mouth of the Amazon River, Belém's Círio de Nazaré parade centers around a small statue of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré (Our Lady of Nazareth), which is carried past millions of pilgrims on a flower-filled carriage. Electronic music fans head to Rio for the Ultra Brasil outdoor festival, featuring the world’s top EDM DJs and dazzling stage light displays.

Temperatures begin to rise with averages between 60º and 95ºF, as does the rainfall. Don’t let the unpredictable weather of this shoulder month put you off. There’s still plenty to see and do in Brazil.
São Paulo hosts one of the most important events of the sporting calendar in November when the Brazilian Grand Prix comes to the Autódromo José Carlos Pace circuit in the Interlagos neighborhood. Christmas and warm weather mean December is a busy month in Brazil. Average temperatures tend to be between 66º and 95ºF, but the return of the wet season sees rainfall across much of the country.
The first week of December sees the largest off-season carnival held in Natal. Known as Carnatal, it brings together crowds who dance through streets alongside trucks equipped with giant sound systems, known as trios elétricos. The Comic Con Experience arrives in São Paulo for 3 days in December, full of exhibitions and artists related to the biggest comics, TV series, films, and video games. As Christmas nears, cities are decorated in beautiful lights, but few more so than Gramado during its Natal Luz festival. You’ll also be able to enjoy a lakeside concert full of entertainers and dazzling special effects. To ring in the new year in style, join millions of white-clad partygoers on Copacabana Beach in Rio on December 31st for an incredible fireworks display and lots of live music.

Brazil’s summer takes place between December and March, with the heat becoming more intense the farther north you go. If you’re looking to enjoy hiking and sightseeing in major cities like Rio during the cooler period between May and September offer better conditions. In the shoulder periods of April and October, expect it to be chilly in the south with dry and warmer weather along the coastal areas farther north. To avoid the harsh winters in the south and the peak of the wet season, plan your trip between September and October.

Rio was amazingly safe compared to the reports. Took the local bus to Sugarloaf and Christ The Redeemer. Walked along Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach. Walked to and from the clubs, which were within a mile of the hotel
Go out and see this country. There are no wrong turns. Every coner has a different picture. Every city has its charm. This could easily.be home.
Beautiful location. Good restaurants, such as Manaca and Acqua. Beautiful beach. Too many mosquitoes.
One of the most beautiful city in the world. Copacabana was very under policy security what is good. Very expensive city.
Beautiful city full of culture. Colored buildings, lot of terrasses, nice people. Best place in Brasil
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES IN THE WORLD FOR SURE! ITS GOOD FOR CULTURE, FOR FOOD, FOR MUSIC, FOR BEACH AND MOUNTAIN, HAS WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND I DIDNT FEEL UNSAFE AT ANYTIME. WILL BE BACK SHORTLY.
Very beautiful city with wonderful vibe. I loved it !
Típica cidade do interior.
It is a beautiful island with lot of beaches and nature. But as a English speaker your gone need a translating app because most people don't speak it. The island is more focus on Brazilin internal marked. And one other imported thing. You need to by the local bug spray because they have nasty little local fly that will eat you alive if don't use it. Do not underestimate this, they will take you by suspires.
Many options for beaches, shopping, and parties! Perfect combination
São Paulo is amazing! Love it! I really miss walking around and eating at Liberdade! Love Pinheiros and Shopping El Dorado! Look forward to returning to SP soon!
We took a snorkeling trip and loved it. Spent another day at the beach. It was very quiet and relaxing compared to the beaches in Rio.
Piracuruca is a small poor community, but a lovely historic town square with nice colonial era buildings and a beautiful church
Great hikes, nice for a weekend away from SP or BH.
Good for buying crochet / trico style clothing, especially in bulk for resale, though they sell individual pieces. The town center is nice as well. A nice place to stop for a day if you're road-tripping through Brazil, especially SP <--> BH.
Florianópolis is magic, beautiful, safe, friendly, good food, Santo Antonio de Lisboa very charming and historic. The beaches are clean and beautiful! The seafood fresh and delicious. That’s a place to go back !
Beautiful metropolis city of Brazil. Food was great and the people were warm and friendly.
São Paulo é para pessoas cosmopolitanas. Vão adorar tudo se for o caso.
Santos is my hometown. Despite of COVID-19 measures, it is still a nice place to be. Even at autumn, it was possible to enjoy the beach most of the time I was there.
Beautiful city, the historical city center is just adorable. Great restaurants and coffee shops so you are able to eat really well during you time in the town.
Trancoso is still a nice historic place worth a visit. Yet be aware: places like Praia de Espelho and some other beaches are packed during weekends and even during the week in the holidays crowded. So while being a charming village still, it is fully discovered, overpriced and hard to spontaneously find a table in any restaurant, since it is generally full. Do not expect and picturesque empty village but be prepared for crowds.
It would take more than this page to describe the Amazon. Don’t take the expensive scheduled tours but just walk or taxi down to the wharf and rent your own private boat, - a boat for 2 to 20 passengers. You can negotiate the price a bit. A 4 hr. or so tour by the captain was just about right. He knew all the best spots for interest and fun!
Coming from Rio, Arraial do Cabo seems great, the beaches are beautiful and the weather's nice, although in the windy season currently. It feels like a friendly, smaller, party/vacation town and we found that the prices reflect that. The only disappointing thing was the lack of a nightlife, everyone seems to be in bed by 24:00. All in all though, I'd visit again for the beaches and the stunning views.
Comfortable accommodations while transiting São Paulo
The best island out there. Warm water and white sand, wonderful landscape. I piece of Caribbean in Brazil. Very safe and good food.
Caxias do Sul it´s a city with hiden jewels like the Samuara Hotel or the winery all over the hills.
The place is great, beaches, restaurants, local businesses very good in a small village. The prices are good, it’s possible to enjoy a beautiful place within spending a lot of money.
Paradise started here! I guess there is no other description to the place. Where can I start it? Its millions of islands and beaches with foaming greenish water? The forest that ends up right at the beach? Or all the fauna you can find just swimming in ANY beach (like turtles, fish, crabs, corals, you name it!) This place is just wonderful!
It is a lively city with tons of cultural and entertainment to do; great restaurants and lovely night live.
Get a car to visit all the beaches! (Otherwise - not much to see and do there) Must eat spot - Taberna Iberica!
What a beautiful city! I live in São Paulo, SP and drove down for a long weekend. I was so impressed by the cleanliness and upkeep of the city and the many parks. And the hop on/hop off bus takes you to all the main tourist attractions. The drive down on Rod. Regis Bittencourt was worth the trip in itself. Beautiful, continuous mountainous landscape! Lots of truck traffic, but a relatively good highway system.
Sorocaba has all you need to do business , Excelent location next to an air field and not too far from an intenational airport with free transport to and from the air port particularly flying with AZUL . Excelent and abundant hotels accomodation next to a high way or in a more secluded and tranquil spot . Excelent walking space next to an un-poluted water way
Good food ... compatitive price . tranquility and good service. Very small town , esay to go around walking ...
One of the most beautiful beaches you will find in Fernando de Noronha. Amazing sunsets! Perfect place for snorkling, hiking, meeting dolphins and turtles. Food is a bit expensive tho.
Great place to stay. The hotel we stayed at was really nice and had all the accommodations we needed. We only left to visit the aquarium and the beach.
We loved the service provided by Vale Tours. We visited Lagoa Azul at sunrise. Our guide was the first female tour guide of the lencois and she was great. She explain a lot of details about the area. The lencois are simple amazing.
Best city in Brazil for cultural attractions as long as you ride the subway. (the traffic is chaotic).
Local maravilhoso, diversas praias e paisagens para conhecer.
Great parks to wander around and enjoy fresh, cold coconut. Great food, not only in Belem, but also at the island of Combu, with several restaurants at the riverside
City: Victory State: Holy Spirit Country: Brazil ...needless to say more !
you can find a lot of nice restaurants and place to stay there. All main trails start in the village. If you want to go on a boat tour, it is also the place :) Definitely recommended
A cidade é ótima.
Apartment is perfect for a traveller who wants reliable internet, great view and close to the beach / supermarket etc, comfortable apartment with modern facilities. Perfect place!
fun, safe city. get a bike, go anywhere. simple, high-end fun though. Fancy city.
