Our stay in Chã das Caldeiras was much more than accommodation — it was a truly immersive and deeply moving experience. Being welcomed by a family who lost their home during the 2014 eruption and courageously rebuilt their lives from the ashes was incredibly humbling. Their resilience, strength, and warmth touched us profoundly. Staying here allows you not only to experience the unique volcanic landscape, but also to understand the powerful relationship between people and nature. The location is extraordinary — we were right in front of an incredible view of Pico do Fogo volcano. Waking up each morning with such a majestic and powerful presence before us made the experience even more special. This is a place that teaches humility. It reminds us how small we are before Mother Nature, and at the same time, how strong the human spirit can be. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to witness such courage and to share, even briefly, in their story. We highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for something authentic, meaningful, and unforgettable.

Situated in Portela, TCHAN LOVe features accommodation with seating area. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking. The rooms include a balcony with views of the mountain. This is a very nice place to stay for couple nights. Quiet, comfortable. Breakfast was included and I have asked for it at 6am, so the Lady just left it from the evening (coffee in a termopot). Also you can ask for a dinner, which is really good, super tasty (Ive got a fish with rice and veggies for 900 escudo). And also you can ask for some wine (industrial or craft homemade, about 200 per glass). The place has not many reviews but it's seems super new, means you will have also super new bathroom which is nice bonus for staying. As for the transfer: you can book the place in Alluger with the room booking. The way from Sao Filipi is 50-60 mins and costs 1000 escudo. As for the trekking: 1. The location is the best, right next to the start of few trekking routes 2. You can ask the owner for a guide, just ask for someone local who is actually based here in Caldeiras and not in Sao Filipe. As for the Pico Grande you will definitely need a guide because it's super tricky route. For the Pico Grande the usual price is 6000 per person but it's could be a discount if you are in group 3. Also you can walk by yourself (without guide) for couple places: e.g Pico Pequeno (it's now that far) and also you can walk to the Forest Monte Velha (about 5 kms till the entrance to the Forest) or even to Mosteiros (about 16 kms in total, 10 kms at the normal road and 6 kms are a bit difficult, inside the forest - not the easiest trail but it's possible)

Hotel Salinas São Jorge has a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in São Filipe. Catia is a wonderful host and made our stay very great. We enjoyed the remote location right at the ocean front. The meals were very delicious and all prepared fresh. We had a great stay and enjoyed every minute of it!

Located in Portela in the Fogo region, Pensão CasaDanilo features a patio and garden views. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking. Guests can have a drink at the bar. One of the most relaxing places I have ever stayed, great value for money. Dani and his family prepared great food everyday, very very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Great recommendations concerning the surrounding area and the volcano. They offer all kind of tours for different levels of experience without being too pushy for it, so if you want to do a hike on your own, you still get the same great recommendations. Overall just a great place to spend your time, very relaxing.

Casa Adriano & Filomena is situated in Portela. There is an in-house restaurant and free private parking. The bed and breakfast has a sauna and a 24-hour front desk. Adriano and Filomena welcomed our group of 4 people in their house. The place was perfect for us: great location, wonderfull view on the caldeira and on the volcano, quality of the staff, size of the room, good food made by them. They have done everything to feel at home. Take time to discuss with Adriano, he has many stories to tell you about the caldeira and about Fogo. Thanks Adriano and Filomena for these days on another planet !

We had the most wonderful stay with Adriano, Filomena and their whole family. They are some of the most warm, welcoming and kind people we have ever met! Their property is in an incredible spot in the caldera with views all around. From the airport pick up, to the amazing home cooked meals, to our guided hike, everything was just great. Highly highly recommend staying here!!

A recently renovated apartment situated in Portela, Rose silva features a terrace. Great location, at the foot of the volcano and in the middle of the village. If you choose to eat there, food is really great and you are welcome at the host’s.
