If you want to experience staying at a traditional Japanese house in the countryside, this is the perfect place. It is suitable for large groups with both beds and futons available for sleeping in multiple separate rooms. Everything was clean and a bunch of snacks and drinks were prepared for us, making us feel welcomed. We had no trouble parking a regular-sized Japanese cat at the designated parking spot in front of the house. As a typical traditional house, it is poorly insulated and may take a while to warm up on cold days but there is AC in several rooms and other types of room heaters are available as well. The bathtub is amazing and even supports reheating the water so that it can easily be used by several people consecutively. For exploring the surrounding area, a car is highly recommended.

Zack, the host, helped us everything starting from booking a restaurant, contacting ski school and preparing everything in the house. We were surprised when we opened the fridge and found everything is well prepared. (Milk, yogurt, butter, jam, eggs, fruits, ice cream, ice and even a frozen beer glass in the fridge.) Also he prepared rice, noodles, snacks, chocolates, tea, coffee and etc. Everything mentioned is free of charge! Another thing that we like is the dish washing service, the host offer to do the dishes by just put dirty dishes in the service area and they will clean and put it back in the service area later. Although the host lives nearby and helps us a lot, we still feel private and comfortable. Thank you so much Zack, we do appreciated your action! This house has 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 4 toilets. Very spacious! We will definitely come back! 10 out of 10! Do not hesitate to book this house!

Surrounded by lush mountains in Minakami, Tenjin Lodge is just a 5-minute walk from Tenjindaira Snow Resort Ropeway and JR Doai Station. Food excellent. Hospitality overwhelming; I was lucky to stay when only 5 guest present so Kieran (owner, chef, handy man, concierge) and Nana (sp?) were very good to me. Kieran even gave me a ride to Doai station (actually very short distance) to catch train upon my departure. Very beautiful area for hiking during my Autumn stay but I understand that Tenjin gets quite busy during Winter/skiing season.
