We were greeted by the friendliest staff, taken for a walk around the jungle (where we saw monkeys, all kinds of birds, and lizards), and then served a delicious dinner. The room is spacious, clean and comfortable with amenities like coffee, tea, powerful AC and a modern bathroom. They also arranged a wonderful safari with a guide, and helped us speak with and find our taxi driver.

With pool views, Tranquil Wild is located in Tanamalwila and has a restaurant, room service, snack bar, garden, year-round outdoor pool and terrace. "Tranquil Wild truly lives up to its name! We stayed in a *Deluxe Double Room with breathtaking lake views* and woke up to peacocks dancing on the lawn. The staff, ***especially Anne (owner) and Amal, were exceptional,they arranged a safari to Yala Block 6 (just 10 mins away!) where we spotted elephants and leopards. The **food was a highlight**: authentic Sri Lankan curries and Western options, all served in an open-air dining area. Don’t miss the **sunset boat ride on the lake**—pure magic! Clean, spacious rooms and a serene pool sealed our perfect stay. We’ll be back!"

Our experience at VR Nature Cottage Cabana was truly exceptional. It is a very special and unique place, surrounded by rice fields and next to a lake, in a beautiful and peaceful setting far away from cars and crowds. The silence and connection with nature make it feel like a hidden retreat. The cabana is run by an adorable family, warm, attentive, and genuinely kind, who made our stay exquisite and truly memorable. Their care and hospitality made all the difference. We honestly believe this is a must-stay for anyone planning to spend time in this area.

Nature Kingdom Sri Lanka features mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking, located in Hambegamuwa, 41 km from Buduruwagala Temple. My stay at Jayantha’s “Nature Kingdom” was truly unique. He owns a large piece of land surrounded by wild jungle and a beautiful natural landscape filled with wildlife that almost feels like Africa. The setting is peaceful, spacious, and deeply connected to nature. The bungalow is handmade from wood and natural materials, built by himself over seven years. It has a special rustic charm and very good energy. For me, this journey became a personal retreat — a time to slow down, reconnect with nature, and feel my body, mind, and soul come back into balance. On arrival, he offered me fresh coconut, and in the morning I enjoyed healthy porridge and delicious homemade curry cooked with ingredients from the land. The food was fresh, natural, and prepared with care. Practicing yoga and meditation in the jungle, with fire and candles at night, was a truly memorable experience. The cats and dogs around the property are friendly and comforting, adding to the warm atmosphere. Jayantha is passionate and hardworking, with big dreams for this place. He has deep knowledge of herbs, gardening, and self-sufficient living. With 22 years of experience as a chef, he is an excellent cook. His life story — how he built this land and created his own “kingdom” — is interesting and inspiring. He is kind-hearted and generous in sharing both his space and his vision. At the same time, the property is remote and truly in the wild. I saw peacocks outside my window, buffalo grazing nearby, many birds, and even elephants while hiking in the jungle. At night, you may hear elephants moving. The land is protected with an electric fence, which provides a sense of safety. This is not a typical hotel or luxury retreat — it is more like staying inside someone’s personal dream project. You need to feel comfortable with a simple, nature-based lifestyle. However, the bed is comfortable, with a good mattress and clean, good-quality bedsheets.

Situated in Hambegamuwa in the Monaragala District region, Glimra eco lodge features a balcony. Located 39 km from Udawalawe National Park, the property provides a garden and free private parking. I traveled to this lodge alone and felt the entire time like I was visiting family. Roshani was so attentive, thorough and communicative. She not only provided accommodations but invited me on various cultural experiences so I could get a first hand experience. I highly recommend staying here!

Situated in Tanamalwila, 34 km from Udawalawe National Park and 26 km from Tissa Wewa, Thanamal-villa features accommodation with air conditioning and access to a garden with a barbecue. My favourite days in Sri Lanka. Peace, nature and a generous and warm host. The safari Prasad arranged was perfect - lots of elephants, a beautiful lotus lake, black- faced monkeys, lots of birds and only 3 other jeeps in the 4.5 hours. The rooms are clean, with a hammock next to a little stream, iguanas, peacocks, monkeys and eagles in the garden. Prasad's mum's coconut rotis are the best I had in my 3 weeks and the room and safari were great value. Thanamalwila has few tourists so unspoilt and the family will help with everything from bus bookings, travel advice to taking me to see a friends farm to see crops growing. The buses from Ella and Galle stop directly outside the homestay so it's really easy to get to. The safari is in Blocks 5 and 6 of Yala. If you want a peaceful safari then I highly recommend Prasad's place.
