Judith, Josue and their beautiful boy Thiago were absolutely amazing!!!! This was the best stay after a huge bus ride. We were so relaxed watching the sunset cuddled up with a blanket. We were provided with the most incredible food - especially the fried trout and soup Judith prepared. Josue took us on a tour around Uros and also took my partner fishing!!! It was just so great. We didn’t want to leave. We also jumped in the lake which was beautiful and clear. A unique and special stay we will remember forever.

We wanted to spend our night on the lake, in a possibly authentic way. Raúl and his wife did everything to make our stay enjoyable. Although we had little time, we could get an insight into the life of the people living on the floating islands, Raúl showed us around in his boat. While it can get really cold on the lake, our beds were warm. Dinner and breakfast was very nice as well.

Don Mario offers a two-hour boat tour through the village, guiding guests through the reed beds while explaining how generations of Uros have used these reeds to cook, build, and navigate the lake they hold sacred. It was deeply moving and fascinating to learn about a way of life that feels both ancient and fragile, yet still very much alive. Both Mario and Lea are also gifted artisans. Don Mario creates drawings that beautifully capture the lake and its culture, while Mama Lea transforms these designs into pillow covers, table runners, and wall hangings that are truly lovely and meaningful keepsakes. A few practical notes: the showers are gravity-fed and solar-heated, which means lower water pressure and the hottest water in the late afternoon. The midday sun is intense, so wide-brimmed hats and sunscreen are essential. Finally, a word about Uros itself. Before arriving, I read many reviews dismissing the islands as a tourist trap rather than a genuine community. While tourism clearly plays an important role in the local economy, it is equally clear that this is a real, living community with deep roots. The Uros have existed here for countless generations, passing down knowledge, skills, and craftsmanship. They are skilled fishermen and masters of using reeds for nearly everything imaginable.

The host at Amalia Titicaca Lodge is one of the best I’ve ever met. They treated us like friends, full of enthusiasm. At the beginning, the host picked us up at the pier and brought us to the lodge. Along the way, we enjoyed beautiful views of Lake Titicaca, and eventually arrived at a stunning and serene lodge. Although the lodge is located on the lake, it’s fully equipped with everything you might need — both dry and wet toilets, and even hot showers. Not to mention, the view is absolutely magnificent. Our stay here was truly unforgettable. Once you check in, you don’t have to worry about a thing. All three meals are thoughtfully prepared for you, and activities are well-arranged. The sunset boat ride was especially wonderful. What impressed me the most was that, due to our schedule, we had to leave very early in the morning — and the host kindly arranged for breakfast to be delivered to our room. It was such a thoughtful gesture.

Het avondeten en ontbijt hebben enorm gesmaakt ( niet in de prijs inbegrepen ). De tour was ook heel leerrijk. Een absolute aanrader als je bereid bent je dagdagelijkse luxe even aan de kant te schuiven en te genieten van moeder natuur.
