The location is very close to the volcanoes national park center, the house is beautiful and well structured, the caretaker is amazing and even the possibility to order (super tasty) dinner from the main hotel is a great add-on. Of course, all of this is topped by the fact that staying here means you support a very nice organisation, which is doing a remarkable job. This is one of my most straight-forward recommendations, there is no way i am back in Rwanda and don’t visit it.

Sambora Kinigi is a gem. We were welcomed to the Sambora Lodge by an unbelievably warm and helpful staff who attended to our every need. Our cottage was perfect, with a roaring fire to welcome us after a delicious meal prepared by a talented chef who uses local, fresh ingredients to make wholesome gourmet meals accompanied by a selection of fine wines. The planned activities from which to choose are world class – top of the list is Gorilla trekking, which was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We had the opportunity to canoe on pristine lakes, visit community groups working with artisans and really experience life in Rwanda’s northern region. The Diane Fossey Campus is literally right around the corner and well worth the visit. We were made to feel at home in this top-notch facility, with our every need catered to – massages in room, fresh local flowers from the luscious gardens, and the best turn-down service ever. But truly the Sambora family made the stay extra special for us.

All the staff were incredibly kind, helpful, and quick to respond, always serving us with a warm smile. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and every evening the staff prepared the room beautifully, turned down the bed, and lit the fireplace, so we never felt cold at all. The food was excellent, delicious, and beautifully presented. Everything exceeded our expectations. Thank you all so much for these truly enjoyable and memorable days. I highly recommend this hotel and would love to return again.
