Entrance to the San Ignacio Ruins (Mini) gives you entrance also to 3 other Jesuit Mission sites. Two are within 30 minutes drive away. Santa Ana and Loret. They are less complete than Mini but are interesting in their peaceful jungle setting and round out the experience. The cemetery at Sanata Ana and the Latrines at Loret in particular. If you only have time for one then go to Sanata Ana.
Town very sprawling. Only one half decent restaurant that I could find (La Misionerita, near bus station) and that was long way from hostel. The Mission was interesting and picturesque. Sound and light show a bit underwhelming. Might have been good if I could speak fluent Spanish. Highly recommend the day trip to the Paraguay missions with agent Tierra Colorada near the bus station. Also visit to yerma mate museum in nearby St Pipo.
The san ignacio is incredible. Excellent guided tour and later there is a light and sound show where u walk thru missions in the dark and jesuits and guarsnies appear in reflecton form and tell u the wonderful story of the.mission and its highlights snd sad endibg.2 pieces of advice. Definively visit the 2 paraguayan missions justt 50 km away crossing in fun boat barge. And definety watch The Mission movie starring robert de niro and jeremy irons
The setting for this hotel is gorgeous with beautiful trees and a large and well kept pool. There are wonderful sitting areas for breakfast, overlooking the pool area. Rooms are spacious and attractive. Air conditioning was great. Staff were friendly and rushed to help in any way.
