Very cool and rustic little hospedaje on a quiet side lane conveniently near the town center. Hostess Gabriela is excellent…very friendly and helpful, makes sure you have everything you need. She recommended a nearby restaurant which turned out to be excellent. Karallantay is a very good value for your Argentine peso 👍🇦🇷

Cute little town in the Quebrada, good to ecplore Pucara, interesting archeological site with excellent guides. Nearby Purmamarca has great views of 7-coloured hill and pretty decent craft shopping. We akso enjoued the solar train (beware od scams, make sure it is the official site when buying tuckets) Obe-time only visit not really worth a long stay nor revisits

The best place to be based when going around the Quebrada if you go in January. Lovely restaurants and shops, quiet, not so busy. Comparing with Purmamarca and Humahuaca is the place to be based. We didn't have a car and instead, we booked excursions every day. I'd recommend doing that. Going with a car might be useless for some excursions where you need a 4WD or a local who knows the tricky gravel roads very well.

Best place to base yourself north of Salta.
Best place to base yourself north of Salta. You need a car really to see the tourist sites, would recommend hiring for a midday late afternoon pick-up so you can return later in the day.
Would recommend 1 day driving there, then 2 days based in Tilcara to visit the mountains and salt flats. Then return to Salta on the final day visiting the small towns on the way back.
There are two driving routes there. Take the less windy one there when you first collect your car, as the windy route is more complicated to drive (though nothing to fear).
Tilcara has the best restaurants in the area, in particular go to the cake shop La Casa De Champa for the strudel

The house was very close to the centre, yet thanks to it's location inside the block, it felt very private.
I must say, the photos do not do justice to this accommodation - in real life it is much more nice than on the photos.
We will recommend it warmly to anyone needing some privacy and something extra.

Amazing place, good for further trips to Humahuaca, Iruya or Purmamarca (the place in the middle), nice market with indigenous art, nice coffee and medialuna at Ekeka, music as well, lots of folklore, many routes for walking. Beautiful mountains, nice locals and super weather.

This apartment was really great! We enjoyed our stay there very much. There was no problem with getting the keys after reception hours. In the fridge breakfast for next day was waiting for us and also some oranges to make juice. There is separate kitchen and large bathroom with all amenities. There was no problem with parking the car, but you need to drive through wooden bridge to get to the place. It is located on the outskirts of Tilcara, so it is quiet during the night and you can observe the sky. The place is absolutely worth the money!
I am not sure you can't find a better place in Tilcara ! :)
The person working here are amazingly nice, the place if beautiful and with an amazing view, there's a lot of animal (lama, dog, cat). It's a very warm place to enjoy and meet people. I wish I could stay more !
- Bed comfort was ok, but large. Nice big room with an extra single bed to put our bags etc. Good omelette for breakfast and self service. Location was a 2 min drive / 10 min walk from Tilcara and useful as a base for exploring and the local area.
The hotel was clean and the bed comfortable. It was warm even without a heater. The hot water was really hot. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. It was slightly further from the centre so it was restful and quiet. Very relaxing.
