I just loved it. It is an amazing place to stay. The Host was soooo friendly and you have a really good view at the ocean. The apartment itself is gorgeous. We really enjoyed our time there. Also you have everything in a walking distance. Just over the road to the beach, cafes near by. The kitchen had everything we could think of and a really good breakfast. Burnie has pretty well anything required of a major regional centre. Easy to get around. Plenty of take aways and eateries. Easy drive to Cradle Mountain and north/north west towns and attractions. The only downside is the on street parking fees.
Burnie has suffered with long term unemployment; there are many shopfronts diplaying a 'For Lease' sign, however there are some v good retaurants at Burnie with lots of choices available. Plenty of walking facilities along the coast as well.
l am not sure how l feel about Burnie. l absolutely love Tasmania, but this town was a little odd. We stayed there for three nights and would get up early to walk around town. l don't think l have seen so many drug addicts in the one place and l am from Melbourne!!!! We also tried to get a hair cut whilst we were there and l couldn't believe how rude some of the hairdressers were on the phone when trying to find an appointment. There is a place called Madhakers in Burnie and the (owner) must have been the rudest person l am yet to meet in Tasmania. It has totally put me off ever going there again unless just passing through. Such a shame, l was looking forward to a great stay.
We made this our central location to visit the places further North such as Stanley Nut, Wynyard Tulip Farm, etc. There are plenty of good restaurants within short distances form the Apartment. There are many many interesting places to visit in and around Burnie such as Guide falls, Hellyers Distillery, Emu Valley Rhododendron Gardens, etc. Also a fantastic Beach across the road for a boardwalk, watch Penguins and enjoy the scenery in and around.
Arrived late, left early the following morning. I am a former resident of 4 decades ago, during those impressionable years of late teens to early 20's. Travelling out of town to the West Coast passed many signs to many great place I had forgotten. I reckon it would be easy to amuse yourself for at least a 3-4 day stopover,
Burnie had a lot of closed shops. But it is a great central location to stay. Found Wynyard, Latrobe, Smithton and Ulverstone very vibrant little towns and spent a couple of hours at least in each. Thirty three cups was a wonderful cafe in Ulverstone. Nite and day had lovely meals in Wynyard. Lucas hotel in Latrobe served a great lunch time specials menu.
Burnie
Warm welcome from Jacqui and Colin. We stayed in the ‘Bay’ apartment of a total of 3 apartments. The others are ‘Beach’ and ‘Ocean’. Not sure how the others fared, but we certainly had plenty of road noise, with a major intersection at our front window. However, lovely amenities, well stocked fridge and pantry. We were able to cook comfortably and easily in the well fitted-out kitchen. Very warm apartment on a cold couple of nights. Having use of guest laundry was excellent for us during a long driving holiday in Tasmania.
The team had provided plenty of directions on checking-in, directions, processes but in the midst of all our travelling we failed to follow much of them. Even so, the hotel manager was gracious enough to check us in very late in the evening. Communication and service from the IKON team surpassed all of our expectations. But the rooms were even better. We booked two rooms and they were incredibly spacious, so well-thought-out and luxe. Everything was clean and tidy and we lacked nothing.
Burnie was a great central location for the MTBing and walking we wanted to do and this hotel was well situated within Burnie. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room spacious with an excellent bed. It was close to restaurants and cafes and the bistro in the hotel was also fine.
