Darwin is a fantastic place for holidays.... many national parks to see.... a few good restaurants. The people are friendly. The night life is great. There is a fantastic wave pool. The cbd is a perfect for jogging or walking along the coast. The sunsets are unforgettable.
It was all great the places the people all amazing. I wish we had come before but hopefully we will be back. Easy to get around. We walk a lot and it was so simple and safe to get around and see the views.
The nearby national parks were truly worth visiting. But, the very best thing to do is to take the Ghan Expedition Platinum Class south to Adelaide -- a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. We stayed at the Darwin City Hotel, and had a great apartment-size room there!
Darwin is a lovely destination. The dry season is the beat time to go otherwise the heat and humidity will get to you. There are some lovely restaurants in Darwin with outstanding quality of food and service that you would struggle to get in anywhere else. Try the Oyster Bay, Hot Tamale, Lime Cafe, Il Lido at the waterfront. IL Piatto at the casino and Crustaceans at Stokes Wharf. We did a wonderful tour with Off Road Dreaming to Litchfield Park where we swam at three clearest and cleanest water pools in stunning wilderness and took a Adelaide river crocodile boat cruise with Pat. He is a knowledgeable man about crocs and other life pondering thoughts Don't forget to hop on a sunset cruise with Cape Adieu and sail up and down the coast with magical sunsets. The shops in the city isn't outstanding but you can find some hidden gems in the city if you wander around. Check out Mindil Night Markets as the food is pretty darn good. Last year was better however this time we were in Darwin closer to the wet season so maybe stall holders had packed up early. Darwin is an enjoyable city to travel too. The people are lovely and diverse.
Our time in Darwin was spent taking two very long tours to see the natural beauty of the area. We visited Litchfield National Park and Kakadu National Park and really spent only our sleeping hours in Darwin. The only parts of Darwin that we saw were on tour buses while hotel pick-ups were being made and on a short walk to Woolworths for groceries. We wish that we had scheduled a longer visit to Darwin so that we could have explored the city, its restaurants, and Aboriginal art galleries.
Great place for a relaxing holiday with plenty to see and do Military museum, Mindil beach markets, flying doctors museum, sunset cruise with Streeters pearl Lugger, Chinese temple and museum. There really is too much to itemise. A must is the big red bus
