Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).
The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.
A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.
Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.
Darwin International Airport has international flights from Singapore and Bali. You can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels and apartments on Booking.com.
Darwin is a fabulous place to visit, lots to see and do, but you need to have a NT attitude to fully appreciate the pace of life, sometimes cafes are open, sometimes they don't serve food-only coffee (at lunch time) Nobody is in much of a hurry and lost count of the times i got fed up waiting in shops for service as the server was chatting/otherwise occupied, you just have to laugh it off. Darwin is an easy city to drive around, but that's because it's not really a city-more of a big country town vibe.
Close to Coles, all ages, cheap, clean, Next visit avoid booking.com.au Smith Street and Mitchell the main streets and easy to get around. Westpac Bank was impressive, as to the Visitor Centre, Immaculate church, Parliament House and old Town Hall
Darwin is a beautiful place to visit. We went in September. I've heard wet season October to April is not so good to visit because of the weather. When we went it was 35 degrees everyday. We enjoyed Palms City Resort, Darwin Waterfront, Wave Pool and NT museum. We went on the Charles Darwin sunset cruise which was beautiful, relaxing and had yummy food. Good places we ate at were The Deck Bar, The Precinct, Snapper Rocks, the Tap Bar and the cafe at the NT museum.
Darwin is such an interesting city with so much to learn and explore. The history is fascinating and the tourist facilities excel at presenting the information in a fun and engaging manner. There is so much to do and see, in the city itself and on day trips outside the city.
Darwin , itself , seemed to be the commercial hub of the district . the satellite town of Palmerston seems to be the more modern Darwin . However , the beaches around Darwin were magnificent . Darwin , definitely had the night-life , plenty of pubs , eateries etc .
Darwin is a big country town, and easy to walk around. Plenty to do, very good WWII history sites, Stokes Bay Wharf has 3 hour free parking and a lovely spot to eat and relax. Great start point for exploring the Top End.
The Gardens, Darwin
Lovely hotel, when in Darwin, make sure to stay at least a couple of nights here, it is truly worth the money. We stayed in four different hotels in Darwin and this one was by far the best. One of the best lagoon pools in Australia, feels truly like a holiday. Walking distance to Botanical gardens, next to Mindil markets, rooms spacious and well appointed. Good mix of guests from all ages.$10 taxi fare to Darwin city or take the affordable easy to ride Neuron scooters. Quick checkout.
Parap, Darwin
Unsure why you asked if we liked the breakfast, there is no cafe/restaurant on site. I was travelling with my adult son and the apartment was large enough for the both of us as we don't live in the same house back home. It was a convenient location for us to stay as we were visiting family in Stuart Park, for others it may have been a little far away from the city/esplanade/waterfront
Darwin CBD, Darwin
We were in Darwin for a family funeral and the City Gardens Apartments suited us perfectly! We could walk to the shops and we were also close to the Cathedral for the funeral. We had a downstairs unit which was perfect for access to the pool, and the manager was very accommodating when we needed extra towels etc. Thanks for your hospitality!
Coconut Grove, Darwin
Out-of-CBD location is no problem because Darwin isnt a massive sprawling city: easy access to night markets, the waterfront, CBD and shopping precincts. After a long day of driving, it was a relief to arrive at these pleasant, peaceful apartments with clean facilities and kitchenette, as well as a laundrette and nifty little swimming pool.
Parap, Darwin
The location. Airport & Darwin city only 10 minutes away. Resort was safe, with key access to gated Carpark. Comfortable, very clean, apartment. Nice big balcony, with good outlook to parkland. Enjoyed the Parap Saturday market vibes, just a few steps away from the complex. Good cafes, great local crafts, nice small shops to browse.
The hotel was in an excellent location, close to all the great spots around the city, particularly with the Darwin Festival highlights. The staff were very friendly and accomadating, I had an a flight out at 12.30am and they were very helpful in storing my luggage and allowing me to use the pool and have a shower before flying out.
Darwin
Stayed in 1 bedroom apartment with full kitchen facilities so with Coles across the road we made our own breakfast and cooked dinner. Washing machine and dryer a bonus too..Great shower. Good restaurant on site. Buses to Darwin across the road from hotel or taxi cost around $50.
Darwin
I love this hotel. I stay here every time I visit family in Darwin. the rooms are always clean and they’re so cosy. The aircons run well which is great in Darwin. The parking is free, and it’s central to everything. you can walk into the pub next door for an awesome meal.
Late night shuttle pick up at airport and a lift back to the airport the next day to pick up a hire car. While the big hotels are adjacent to the airport there are road works going on around them so walking there at midnight would not be fun.
Leanne and staff were fantastic, very accommodating, we were on ground floor, my sons loved the pool access. we got parking and it felt safe. Very personal feel to the hotel. Loved our stay..love the USB connections.
Darwin CBD, Darwin
Brilliant location , only a couple of minutes walk to Darwin Waterfront Beautiful tropical gardens Very comfortable room Close to the Darwin Hotel, surprisingly good food
Darwin CBD, Darwin
The facilities are ok. One of the cheapest options in Darwin. If you are at the age of crazy partying and not giving a sheet about anything else, it is a nice place to be
Darwin CBD, Darwin

Berrimah, Darwin
Bit far out of Darwin city but hotel is excellent. There was no breakfast available, the restaurnant was not open.
Location, hotel, facilities, quality of items for self contained apartment, view from 19th floor and layout.
Nice and clean hotel with good price.
