Our favourite places were the Darwin waterfront restaurants and eateries and the wave pool. Love the original jumping crocodile tour. Parliament House and state library, and museums. We really loved how easy it is to walk every where or use a scooter to get around . Hiring a car to explore the national parks and waterfalls is the best way to go.
We loved Darwin, our 2nd trip there so far. We stayed for 6 nights. Visited Litchfield National Park, Fishing Charter for the boys and day spa for the girls, Croc Spectacular. Hop on Hop off bus is great, visited the Museums, Cullen Bay, Yacht Club, Shennanigans, Casino. Scooters were a heap of fun and a great way to get around.
My first short visit to NT during the wet season & it won't be my last. This trip was a taste to see if I'd come again. A last minute decision to celebrate my 60th birthday 21/1/21 was a milestone I'll treasure. The highlight was our flight over Kakadu and the Yellow River cruise. They're would have been a list of many other experiences but decided to embrace the atmosphere and culture instead of madly chasing all the tourist highlights and spending a swag more dosh in this 4 day trip. Darwin is not about rushing around - it's has a magical way to slow you down. Mainly because it's too bloody hot to rush 😬but more that you miss what this place is about if you don't slow your pace. You'll either love it or hate it, simple as that. Depends on your attitude & how you take the lifestyle you see. Hard to have too much of an opinion on my fly by trip but I do have rellies that moved from the southern states & call Darwin their forever home after 4 years... Being a non drinker & smoker myself I was surprised at the ease and culture centred around both these habits. Loved knowing the indigenous stories of the local artists and tour guys that teach so much. They do their culture proud. The diversity of lost ones roaming the town markets and streets chasing every dollar is the darker side that breaks your heart. They seem to be living to drink only. Best not to give money even if hassled. Slapping a pair of thongs together is not the true culture.... Crime and break ins locally has risen greatly. Many are seeking solutions and I hope they find changes. Apart from this dark side there are many highlights, natural beauty, characters, history ect ect... Regardless I will return as much as possible to embrace everything that NT has on offer. It's unique, totally safe for visitors and tourists and I love it.
Darwin CBD is a great place to be for short, car-less stopovers between remote NT and my interstate home. For longer stays, I typically drive into Darwin, and avoid the CBD, for better accommodation rates, and to have a shorter drive to scenic sites.
I loved the lay back feeling of Darwin. Everything is walkable. I came in the wet season so not all tours were available. Darwin has a lot of good restaurants to choose from.Make sure of the season you travel in that all things are open.Did a fabulous Jumping croc tour which was up close and personal. Also swam with the croc at the Crocasaurus Cove in Darwin and it was a good laugh.
Loved everything... Trailer Boat Club, delicious food Crocodile Cruise amazing,Adelaide River Queen cruises Darwin Wharf Precinct... Stokes Hill Wharf...Delicious Reef n Beef meal Loved weather (Wet Season) Darwin Military Museum. A must see, absolutely amazing Darwin Waterfront... Awesome Yogi's Bake & Co Healthy Bar We will be back
Coconut Grove, Darwin
It is a lovely motel with more spacious rooms then we expected. It has a nice exotic garden with a little oase pool. The whole working team is absolutely friendly, you feel that it is a nice working atmosphere and team. The beds are really comfortable. The rooms have the important things to do some own cooking, great. A cloth-horse as well. Important little things to survive as a tourist. The area is quiet although good located to the airport ( just really very seldom there are any airplanes heard )...and the Woolworth supermarket is very close as well a nice little Centre with a Sunday market and bars. The rooms are comfortable and very, very clean. You feel welcomed from the very beginning on.

It is a special time when travel to Darwin at the end of January 2020, all my family set high value of stay at Darwin Waterfront Luxury Suites. We stayed there for 11 nights because we like everything of Waterfront and we postponed the airplane ticket. And it is the special birthday for my daughter, thanks for good weather in summer, thanks for the staff of suites, thanks for Darwin. It spend me some time to search the reception room of suite, due to there is no sign outside. It is not a problem when you know that the reception room is just between the Mini-mart and CHOW restaurant. It you can't find it, you should ask someone where is Mini-mart or CHOW restaurant?
Wifi worked well. Nice pool. The 6-bed female dorm is actually like two rooms together (with a door to divide them if you want privacy), no bund beds, that's a nice touch. Breakfast is not included but you have coffee and tea facilities in the room, an electric kettle, and milk in the fridge (yes, a fridge inside the room!). The AC worked perfectly. Good value for money. Stayed here for a 2nd time. It's a bit further from city centre, but still walkable. Nice a quiet, good service and facilities. Restaurant food is ok and the view (sunset) is amazing.
