Gladstone is a beautiful harbour city. The Port of Gladstone and the Shire Council gave done a magnificent job with beautiful gardens and family facilities along the foreshore and the Botanical Gardens are lovely. The Mariner is a lovely spot for family n friends to relax and enjoy the BBQ facilities or have lunch at the Spinnaker Cafe on the waters edge. Beautiful, shady gardens. The Hot Box at the Gladstone Fish Market sells THE best fish and chips and delicious sea scallops that actually have flavour! The Fish Market itself sells the most amazing mud crabs. Being a Queenslander no longer living in QLD, I buy mud crabs from the market and banana prawns whenever we go back to Gladstone. Gladstone is a very relaxed city just a ferry ride to Curtis Island, Quoin Island, Facing Island and Boyne Island. Tannum Sands 20 minutes from Gladstone is a beautiful beach for swimming and the gardens are really lovely with BBQ facilities.
Gladstone isn't turist town, it's industrial town - that's what we heard from a lady at the Information Centre. Cruises around port does not exist unless you have a lot of time between April and November. There are cruises only to Heron Island. Few lookouts and nice Marina isn't enough to keep you in town for more than 2 days. Botanic arden very neglected. City itself looked like dead, no life, no people. We were only people/car on the road most of the time. Apparently Gladstonians are leaving town for Christmas/New Year that's why is so dead.
Pet friendly is a huge plus for travellers. Quiet spacious room at an affordable price. The rooms are dark and outdated, maybe my review will prompt the owners to refurbished for a better experience. Their restaurant food was great and a decent selection to choose from. Overall we were happy with our stay.
I was surprised how lovely Gladstone was. The waterfront was especially surprising...very community friendly. The main road through town was a hill but the presentation of the town was lovely. It seemed the community was proud of where they lived and made an effort to keep it beautiful.
Nice little town. We went for a sporting competition. As a tourist destination three days would well and truly be enough. There are some lovely parks on the waterfront but the town centre is VERY quiet on the weekend. Cotton Mill cafe in the Rydges Plaza serves great merlo coffee and they’re open from 7am on Saturday. The yacht club on the water front had music and views and was a pleasant way to spend Sunday afternoon.
Gladstone
Our room was quite large and included a washing machine and dryer and full kitchen facilities. The Motel is centrally located and very close to shops cafes and restaurants. The rooms were clean and nicely furnished.and we had a lovely view down to the harbour . For $109 per night this was extremely good value for money. Our stay was very comfortable and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Gladstone .
10/10 for every aspect. loved the standard of cleanliness, hospitality, location & amenities. Sounds odd but it was so nice that all the other guests were happy enough that everyone was pleasant and courteous. we'd go back to Gladstone just to stay here again.
