Ormiston Gorge was a great hike , long but well worth it, you must wade through chest high water to complete the circuit which was freezing in July but only a narrow crossing and as it was a warm day it was fine. We bought food in Alice Springs and cooked our own meals in the camp kitchen as the restaurant had bad reviews for dinner but the buffet breakfast was great. You need a car to get around the area but the resort was well laid out and easy to walk around. Definitely needed full winter clothing for nights but shorts and t-shirts were enough on the warmer afternoons. Strong boots for the walks around the ranges are essential.
I expected an old little hotel in an isolated location, however when we arrived we found a little gem located in the most beautiful spot in the West MacDonnell ranges. It was cozy, rooms are smaller than a normal hotel room, but decorated beautifully, warm, ours was right on the edge of the river. The bar out on the Dec is beautiful and the food is comforting. I wish we had stayed longer than one night!
It is in a stunning location being at Glen Helen Gorge. A very lovely room where I enjoyed my morning cuppa in bed admiring the morning son on the Gorge's cliff face. It's humbling to learn about how ancient the Finke River is.
Enjoyed a drink and meal out on the deck which faces the Gorge as the sun set.
There was a very generous breakfast included in the room tariff.
Amazing location with escarpment views right at the door. Swimming and exploring Glen Helen gorge a short walk away. Other hikes and places to explore along the West Macdonnell Ranges quite close. Very cute, comfy, clean room. Nice outdoor deck to sit and eat meals.
the staff at Glen Helen are the most helpful & friendly that I have ever encountered. they give the meaning hospitality understanding
