At Wrest Point, guests can enjoy spectacular views of the River Derwent, Mount Wellington and Hobart CBD (Central Business District).

The service support from the hotel staff. Our initial room had a “cherry picker” parked outside the room window as the hotel is undergoing renovations, this we found unacceptable and requested to be moved which was duly approved and we were upgraded to a better room with a very good view of the harbour.

Loved everything about this fantastic hotel! The location was great, between CBD and Salamanca Place. The dining room and bar, and all staff, were great. Room was lovely and spacious, and just felt clean. The staff were amazing in all areas. Wish I had taken down more names, sorry, but Chelsea (breakfast room), Carolyn (night manager), Ben & Danika to name a few. Would absolutely recommend, and will definitely stay again one day. Thank you!

FAQs about hotels in Hobart

Historic City Comes of Age

Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.

The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.

Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.

Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.

The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Hobart is a beautiful city with lots of historic stone buildings and large mature parks. It is a foodie paradise with fresh seafood and the best bakeries that I have seen anywhere. The hop on hop off bus will take you to historic sites like the Cascade Womens Prison and the Cascade Brewery. Very interesting to visit. MONA is a must visit by ferry. It is world class and was the highlight of our trip. Interesting fact, Hobart has the second least amount of rain of all the cities in Australia.

The Waterfront area of Hobart had lots of restaurants & shops as well as the piers along the waterfront. Very historical area surrounded by places to see & things to do. Went to the Salamanca Market on Saturday which was really big & worth seeing. Ate at the Ball & Chain twice as the food was so good.

Hobart has a small CBD with a well developed waterfront precinct. It is full of original architecture which adds to the history of the city. It is very easy to walk to most locations and has a number of ferry services to the mmore distant attractions. The Salamanca area is fantastic and there are a number of short walking tours available to get a better feel for the area. The only downside to the city is that the main north south highway runs right throught the middle of the CBD which means lots of traffic at all times. Very polluting and loud, a big negative for the place.

city centre and waterfront linked and most things and atractions in city are easily walkable. with a hire car it is easy to travel around and though some streets are one way, they work and easy to get out of city to other sights thru freeways. We were 5 streets from city centre and post tour 3 nights found an irish pub close by for meals. not knowing city and eating places can be a little hard to find suitable restaurant locations, where you may need to prebook

Great location in Salamanca across the road from the waterfront. The university across the road obscures the water views, but a short stroll away you have restaurants galore and the Salamanca markets. Stylish rooms. Our second stay at this hotel, a great jumping off point in Hobart to start your holiday. Has kitchen facilities in room and washer/dryer. We arrived after hours but received a phone call from staff that afternoon explaining after hours entry procedure, followed up by an email with all details again explained and confirmed.

Beautiful hotel, very original in conception. Wonderful location, just on the old Macquarie wharf at Hobart's tourist port. Excellent organization and careful management by the hotel's team. Closely linked to the history of the city of Hobart, whose colourful characters are finely sketched on the doors of the rooms. Excellent food at the "Old Wharf Restaurant" and very fine selection of Tasmanian gins, whiskies and vodkas at the "Evolve Spirits" bar. Congratulations.

Good sized, well laid out and equipped studio. Corner unit so windows on 2 walls made in light and airy. Leafy outlook. Newish bathroom with good shower. Table and chairs for eating or looking at maps to decipher the bewildering matrix of one-way streets in Hobart. Kitchenette well equipped with dual hot plates. 20-25 minutes walk to waterfront. Uphill on the way back but plenty of $2 per hour parking stations in the CBD, or first hour free at the Woolworths one.

This property exceeded our expectations with the hosts going above and beyond to offer a unique, Tasmanian experience. Lots of complimentary extras included which were a lovely touch - most of which we didn't have time to take advantage of but the thought was appreciated none the less! Nice to see an accommodation live up to the word "luxury" that gets thrown around alot - no cheap kmart furnishings or supermarket shampoo here. Everything was quality.

I loved the history of the property and how the hotel actively incorporates that history — original wood beams, exposed stone and brick from 200 years ago. Curated local art throughout adds to the unique nature of the hotel. Right on the waterfront, this is definitely the best location in Hobart!
